Sampled at Borefts After Fest 2016, Kaapse. Pitch black pour with a nice espresso head. Notes of both roasted coffee beans and brewed coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts. Full bodied with a smooth texture, medium carbonation and a bitter-sweet finish. Congrats to kermis on his 10000th beer. As a side-note, I was able to sample the nitro version of this beer and it was even better - the coffee roastiness was just superb.

Thank you for sharing Israeli Crew! Sampled draft @ BAF 2016. Congratulations! Black, little head. Nose is umami, viscous, warming, low vinous coffee. Taste is coffee, rather bitter, messy buildup with umami notes, molasses, sugar, too bitter for me with overt umami notes, pretty solid even if not entirely to my taste. Body is thick syrupy molasses.

Keg at The After Borefts Beer Festival, Kaapse Brouwers, Rotterdam, Sunday 25th September 2016. Pours black with a small tan head. Like the other Upgrade variants tried today this is quite a sticky beer. Plenty of coffee, however not overbearing in this respect, some sweetness with chocolate showing, roastiness and a little fresh green hop picked up,. Nice to meet Kermis today, well done on the milestone and a great beer for the 10k. A7 A5 T8 P4 Ov15 3.9

Wow what a shock this was. Poured a light pink colour with a fluffy pink head. This is so gay. Smells like a badgers ass after bad badger curry the night before. Clearly matured alongside a rancid Danish chopping board... the flavour reminded me of a long forgotten mouldy chilli cheeseburger that lay festering at the back of my fridge for a couple of weeks. It’s surprising what you can eat when you come home drunk! Clearly a bottom fermented beer... but not the right kind of bottom. One for the ladies. Best served with one of those little cocktail umbrellas. So gay that the only thing missing is a tutu wrapped around the glass. Kermis, Schermis.... whatever :-) Congratulations mate! A real milestone!

It’s been several years since I was introduced to craft beer when I moved from the UK to The Netherlands. There was no Ratebeer for me at the time, just that initial period of discovery drinking Belgian beers and ordering something other than whatever lager was on tap. I remember in those early days going to beer cafe De Paas in The Hague and looking in awe at the 200 odd bottles lined up on the wall for sale and thinking “wouldn’t it be crazy to have tried them all!”. Of course I never imagined then that I would be typing this now for a beer review of my ten thousandth beer! (Incidentally I did tick all of those beers in De Paas) My Ratebeer experience over the years has been awesome, so much more than sitting in a bar being that weird guy hypnotising his beer, sniffing it and franticly taking notes. I feel thankful to be part of the wonderful community of people that call ratebeer their online beer home. So a big thank you to everyone that I have shared a beer with along the way, there’s been so many great times! And to those I have not yet met, I hope we do sometime in the next 10k! Also, a shout out to Deanso, not just for introducing me to this silly hobby, but also for teaching be to be able to really pick out the nuances of aroma and flavour in a beer. And of course, massive thanks to Kwartje - I’m honoured that you would make this beer for me! Look out for this brewery folks, great things are coming! Anyway, on with the review: Draft at Kaapse Borefts After Festival 2016. Black with a Thick beige head. Aroma showcases the coffee, huge roast, espresso, dark chocolate, light vanilla and caramel. Flavour is light heavy sweet and bitter. Full bodied with a medium thick texture and soft carbonation.
