After years of commemorating our anniversary with deliciously wild and weird ales, we decided to mix it up a bit and create our first Anniversary Lager. SEVENTEEN is a celebration and case study of the aromas and flavors of German hops. And knowing our fetish for those beautiful green cones, you can be confident that the contents of this bottle are excessively hopped for your olfactory pleasure. Many thanks to all and we hope you enjoy our lupulin dissertation. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, imported German hops, and German yeast.

On tap at the Tampa Pour House pouring up deep darkness with nice tan head and sheet lacing. It is smooth smelling with an even mix of dark roasted malts, chocolate and then a touch of lighter roasted malts, dark fruity esters and maybe a pinch or two of rauch malts. The taste is a bit bright from the high level carbonation creating notes of dark roasted malts, chocolate, sweet floral hops, some hop spiciness and a sense of citrus hops too. It seems to then smooth out toward the finish and achieves a noticeable level of creaminess. Nice stuff.

Very good beer. Lots of chocolate and interesting hops. The beer is dark brown, cloudy with a good head. The aroma has chocolate and wonderful German hops. The beer has a good bitter finish. Lots of roasted malt in the flavor. Creamy, smooth feel. Very good beer.

Bomber from Pizza Port Bottle Shop. Pours ruby black with a 4 finger foamy beige/tan head. Aromas of smooth roasted toasted malt and rather grassy hop. Medium plus body with oddly poised carbonation. Flavor is mildly sweet, suggestive of milk chocolate, and smooth burnt malt, and a lot of hop - still seems grassy/herby. Finishes smooth, burnt and hoppy bitter. With that underlying milk chocolate note. Excellent.

Bomber. Pours a fairly dark and leathery brown with a pretty decent head that continues to rise up after the pour is finished and threatens to spill over the rim of the glass. Aromas are pretty bland... a bit of a dark malt presence is about all I can detect. Flavor is pretty decent, but rather unidirectional... lots of chocolate malt with a little bit of resin on the front edge and a touch of it in the finish. This is smooth and chocolaty, more like a stout than a lager, but hey... it’s interesting.

Pours mahogany-tinged black into a Sam glass. Pancake batter head with excellent retention craters as it slowly recedes. Roasted caramel, bread and resin aromas. Dark chocolate covered nuts and dried fruit upfront turning quite hoppy in the lasting, burning resin finish.

Draft. Black beer with a tan head. Malt and toffee aroma. Toffee/caramel flavor with light coffee. Medium-plus bodied. Toffee/caramel lingers with very light roast.

Pour is a black with a huge tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted chocolate malt with some caramel. Flavor is again roased matls with some chocolate and coffee. Hops make a minor appearance. Still this is quite flavorful and probably one of the better schwartzbier’s I’ve had. Deffinatly one of Avery’s better anniversary ale’s they put out.

On tap at Paradiso Georgetown. Pours an oily, although opaque, black with a frothy, creamy beige head. Nose of chocolate, nuts, light yeast, bread, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, malty, bready, nice light milk chocolate, some light toast. Finish is medium bodied and sweet. Far from exceptional, but definitely drinkable.

Bottle. Pours with a large tan to brown head that leaves good lace. Near black, deep brown body. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, nuts, lightly grassy-earthy-herbal hop profile. Some tobacco and mushrooms. Taste is bitter, salty, soy, teriyaki, earthy hops, smoke and molasses. Some bbq notes as well. Not bad. Medium carbonation. Dry and slightly bitter finish.
