Three Sisters Scottish Ale (4.2% abv) is a dark, fruity, refreshing ale that proves a perennial favourite, and is named after the dramatic range of mountains in Glencoe.
Chocolate Malt helps to give this beer its very attractive dark ruby colour, as well as contributing to some of the toasty and liquorice flavours in the beer.
However, a very large charge of whole-flower hops balances the dark malt character with an abundance of hop fruit flavours. These include dried and fresh fruit flavours as well as some more citrus tones not normally found in such a dark beer.
There’s enough ‘going on’ in Three Sisters to keep even the most demanding real ale aficionado happy, whilst the very approachable fruit makes this a popular drink across the board.

Reddish-amber. The aroma is very toasty, breadcrusty - nice - with some fiery, almost smokey warmth to the aroma. The body is toasty, malt-accented but dry, with a hint of burnt breadcrust. Complex malts without being overly sweet. Good balance. This Scottish ale is one of the few I found in Scotland that is close to what Americans think a Scottish Ale is.

Cask (handpump) @ Halfway House, 24 Fleshmarket Close, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1BX.Clear medium amber color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, fruity, light to moderate hoppy, citrus - orange, apple and toffee notes. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100205]

cask at Bow Bar in Edinburgh - Pours dark red with a small, lasting head. It has a caramel and toffee malt smell. The flavor is smooth caramel malt with mild hops. The sweet malt leads though. While pretty unremarkable, it’s good.

Cask-conditioned at the Inn on the Green, Bristol 18/02/10. Copper coloured with a frothy, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and fruit aroma with some fruity hops. Flavour was also sweet, with at touch of chocolate, before a contrasting, bitter, hoppy finish. Very good.

Bottle. Poured a clear amber brown with a small tan head. Aroma had notes of dough and a musty woods as well as some chocolate. Flavor was musty as well that made the other notes (chocolate and light fruits) less enjoyable.

Small creamy pale beige head. Reddisy coppery body. Faint floral aroma with fruity notes. Dry-sweetish roasty caramelly fruity taste with floral notes. Very harmonic. Soft, mild, and smooth mouthfeel. Clean palate. Mid-bodied. Dryish roasty wooden dusty aftertaste with fruity notes. Very, very nice. (0.25l cask, Cloisters, Edinburgh.)

From cask at Charlies. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small and slight tan head. Roasted caramel ad slight breadish malt aroma. Bitter and light liqourice hoppy to a mild roasted caramel malt and slight sweet base flavour. Mild citrusy and light bitter flavoured finish.
