Bottled 11/2009 and somehow got lost until tonight. Pours a solid dark brown with faint garnet highlights when held to light and a fluffy tan meringue head that sticks lots of lace on the way down. Smells of roast and lots of caramel dark sugars and dark fruits. Spicy earthy aromas remind me of wood and ginger. The flavor is kind of a cross between a stout and a Belgian strong dark ale. The roasty caramel and chocolate flavors meet some spicy and earthy flavor reminiscent of some dark Belgians. Nice sugary fruity flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. This probably wasn’t the best candidate for aging, but it worked just the same, its a very nice beer.

Bomber. Deep brown body approaching black. Frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate with hints of cherry, grain, pine. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, soft carbonation. Good balance between sweet and bitter. Tastes of chocolate, toast, roasted malts, dark cherry with a slight flavor of wood and vitamin B. Leaves the impression of a rich beer with lots of flavor. Unique and enjoyable.

Bomber from Half Time. Pours black with a dark tan head. Aroma is very dark/burnt malt with a lot of herb/wood/spice. Full bodied. Flavor is sort of chocolate, going to smoked malt, going to spice, going to hop. There’s a lot going on in this one. It is very smooth, and a bit more sweet than not. After the sugars go away, the finish is bitter, and maybe even a touch rosemary. Hard to tell. Hellish good beer, and excessively drinkable.

Bomber bottled Oct 2011 on sticker over the cap. Got at Table and Vine. Served in an English pint. Very nice eye appeal of thick, tan head. Plenty of Retention and lace. Heavy roasted malt on the nose. A very complex flavor initially of roasted malts followed by the hops, and I get a spice in the finish, maybe the rosemary they speak of. Chocolate and light coffee flavors as well. Insinuation of some bitterness as it warms. Balanced real well. Full bodied with an oily texture. Nice stout.

Courtesy of hellbilly. It pours dark mahogany with ruby red edges and mocha like head. The aroma is sweet with caramel malts, molasses and chocolate malts and then mixing with smoky rauch and a touch of bacon. The taste is full up smoky malts, spicy black licorice and some molasses. To midway it gets a bit rubbery along with lingering notes of smoke, black licorice and caramel malts. Nice.

i think dan is way more of a mad genius than anyone else in craft brewing right now, and yes...more than sam from dogfish. this was a very easy to drink stout, not trying to play one-upsmanship like most others in terms of abv, just going after the right combo that will be something new. love it.

Bottle from Firefly Maple Ridge, Vancouver; bottled November 2009, 11 months old
The darkest black color, pouring viscous, forming a compact brownish head, creamy and persistent, perfect.
The aroma is very mild, with some roasted malt; considering how the flavor is great, it’s a pity that the aroma is not at par.
It has a good body structure, and a very smooth mouthfeel, with fancy roasted malt flavor, light coffee, and a good vibe, some intriguing freshness, malt sourness. The final is a bit drier and balanced, with a vague acidity.
Very good, harmonious. It makes a statement.
