This is our lighter English take on the traditional Bavarian Wheat Beer style which means that it is perfect for every day drinking. It has hints of banana, vanilla and mango and is served naturally cloudy because the yeast and wheat haze have not been filtered out.

500ml bottle from Gloucester Services Farm Shop. Pours hazy orange with a promising wheat beer nose. Taste is uber-spicy and sweet, with an enthusiastic carbonation. Some dough and citrus. Pleasant German-style wheat beer.

Keg at the Earl of Essex, London. Pours a lightly hazy yellow with a faint, white foam head. Doughy wheat nose with faint lemon tang. Light to medium sweet flavor with more doughy malts, some straw, mild wheat, faint white sugar. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Moderately sweet finish, still more dough, faint yeasty wheat, some cereal. Very basic, easy stuff. It does the trick on a warm afternoon when cycling around London.

[Keg at the Royal Standard of England, nr Beaconsfield] Yellow with a slight haze and a moderate white head. Strong, rather acidic lemon flavour up front almost hides the mellow banana behind. Thereโs a big hit of spice at the end - coriander and cloves. Itโs OK, but a little harsh - somehow needs mellowing out a bit to integrate the flavours better.
