Draft at the brewery. As Trippelbock Reserve, 10% ABV, 17 IBUs. Dark reddish color, no head, no lace. Heavy on caramel, molasses, and toffee. Dark fruit and brown sugar as well. Rich and strong. Full bodied. A little sticky. Nice stuff.

Capped 750 from Half Time. Pours dark ruddy amber with a few beige bubbles for head. Huge dark fruit aroma. Plums (prunes) and raisins. Med + body. Flavor is prune/date/raisin with a lot of darker roast malt. Doppelbock it is. Sweetish. But there’s enough fruit here to stand in for hop. Beer this good doesn’t need to be very bitter.

Bottled. A hazy deep amber beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and metal, as well as lighter notes of hops, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle, blind #8. Pours hazy amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is slight mouldy, dark malty and slight caramelish. Sweet caramelish, overripe fruity and breadish. Alcohol presence. Mild spiced and caramelish into a dry and slight phenolic finish.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of TheCheeseMan. Pours an almost clear dark amber with an off-white head. The nose has burned caramel and pumpernickel. Very solid and malty body, a little low in carbonation, loads of sweet caramel and pumpernickel. No bitterness, and the alcohol is rather well hidden. A sweet and pleasant sipper. 210810

Thanks to goldtwins for the trade. The beer is a hazy dark brownish-amber color with a medium thin beige head that recedes steadily. Spotty lacing. Big doughy malty aroma with some citrus in the background. Rich body with a malty character and a solid hops counterpoint. Notes of grapefruit and some sweet fruits in the background. The finish is dryer than expected with a malt taste and a fruity aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Clear dark brown in colour with absolutely no head. Completely still. Strong smells of malt & grapes. Full-bodied; Strong alcohol flavour, a bit of malt and a bit of sweetness (from grapes & pit fruit). Strong sweetness and bitterness in the aftertaste, and the mouth is left coated with the beer. Overall, a very strong & sweet beer. This one is neither bad nor great, but if you like strong beers than try it, else go for the ESB! I had this pint on draught served at MacGregor's in Rochester, New York on 16-September-2003.

I admit I'm not huge on the Sled Dog Doppelbock, but this I really got into, evidently much more than those who've had it before me. Dark brown with little head. Aroma is of sugary, mapley malts, earth, and hints of molasses. Yes, the palate is sweet but when it says "tripplebock" you have to expect that. The malts here are quite well-developed, with molasses, demerara, and wood. I find the big shot of alcohol that lies just underneath the malt is quite appropriate - this is a stiff brew to be consumed by the snifter. Ultra smooth body, silky texture. Decadent and long.
