(Cask at Gallows Real Ale Fest ’10) Poured deep dark brown and clear with small and white head. Aroma contained home-brew and molasses. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Flavours were roastedness, mildly molasses, little sweetness, berries and bitterness. Aftertaste was roasty and bitter.

Cask-conditioned at The Hobgoblin, Reading 29/5/08. Black in colour with reddish undertones and a slight tan head. Chocolate aroma with a hint of red fruit. Slightly sweet flavour, with a touch of roastiness and some hops in the finish. A bit subdued all round.

[on draught at The Retreat, Reading] Slight head quickly dissipates; ruby black colour body. Slight smoke on foretaste, aftertaste too dry and bittter for a mild. Disappointing (like many West Berkshire ales).

[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] An almost opaque deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of both roasted malt and berries. The flavor is a powerful dry and roasted one, with lots of berries, and a light sweetness lingering in the background, but also a hint of acidity. The end is very bitter with a slight roasted touch. The body is a bit thin - but with so much flavor, it isn’t a problem.
