A beer that’s as Original today as it was in 1807, when Daniel Thwaites himself began brewing. A clean dry tasting and refreshing session bitter with a glowing amber appearance. Brewed using premium grade Maris Otter malt and a blend of traditional English Hops including Goldings and Fuggles to give a malty flavoured beer with a delicate dry finish.

Cask at the Three Mariners, Hythe. Hazy amber with a thin cream head; smells like a brewery, that is, just like the smell you pick up down wind of boiling wort on a brewing day; sweet malty flavour with a good shot of sulphur, and gentle sustained English hop finish. A very pleasant everyday bitter.

Half on cask. Dark brown. Missing head. Light aroma of dark malt and some sweetness. Mild caramel flavour. Slightly bitter ending. Smooth. Medium level of carbonation. Thin to medium palate. Noting more than an average bitter (Pillars of Hercules, Soho 18.09.2006).

[Cask at GBBF] Pale amber colour. Vegetable aroma. Sweetish and sugary with medium body. Sad notes of garbage and pea soup before a meakly void finish. Plain bad.

Cask handpull at Head of Steam, Liverpool. Copper colour, thin bubly beige head. This has a faint almond/marzipan flavour with yeast aroma. Fine in mouth. Finish has more marzipan/nut/yeast flavours. Odd but drinkable

Cask. Dark golden reddish/brown colour. Creamy white head. Refreshing citrus flavour, aromatic hoppiness. Aftertaste is a bit woody. A little watery, but a very good session beer.
