Can 355ml (brewed 10/2005)
This can was brought from China (via oh6gdx, thanks). Pale yellow, small white head. Strong aroma of rice and skunkyness (like dirty yeast). Sweet corn flavor, faint maltyness, tickling carbonation. I think this sample wasn’t at its prime.

Bottled (BB 06/2005)
Pale yellow, small white head. Sour aroma of hops and rice. Typical Chinese rice beer flavor, sweetish, carbonated. Short dry finish.

Canned, brought by a friend who visited China. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is rice and maize, with soemthing that reminds of an alcoholic sting! Flavour is rice and maize, with hayish hoppiness coming in. Well mixed, but I bet this would be more a beer you enjoy drinking in the sun when it’s really hot outside...

Bottled. Pale yellow, minor white head. Sour aroma of hops and rice. Sweet aroma of rice and hints of malt. Watery beer, but still not that horrible in my opinion.

A light yellow beer with no head. The aroma is sour with clear notes of rice. The flavor is of rice and with a light dry hoppy end. And the body is thin.

(Bottle 64 cl) Again this very nice hoppy nose. Golden to the pale side, high carbonation, limited head. And also a rather high chicken fodder-like sweetness. 210105

Because you can never have too much Chinese lager in your life. I had to pick this up. Actually, I’m already getting nostalgic for the PRC. I’m reading Lost Horizon so I’m daydreaming about northwestern Yunnan and all the rain around here lately has me thinking about my rainy days in Sichuan, from the sunny day in spectacular Songpan to that contemplative afternoon in the rain at Chengdu’s Wenshu Temple to the umbrellaless deluge in Chongqing, a very cool city much like Manhattan on a series of steep hills with ancient houses alongside gleaming towers. I’ve got my cd of Chinese spirituals in the player to add to the atmosphere. Pale gold colour. Sourish, grainy aroma, with a faint hint of grassy hops. Very light body. Watery, grainy, with a hint of tartness late. Other than the fact that 330ml is downright miserly by Chinese standards (bottles in PRC are 640 mls), this is a quintessential Chinese lager experience.

Standard lager with a little bit of acidity.
