Big thanks to douglas88 for hosting and opening this cool brew. The can pours with a dark molasses sort of look supporting a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweetness, black strap molasses, a light sour mash sensation and then some dark roasted malts. The taste has a pleasing mix of brown sugar like sweetness, a quick sour mash note, a light degree of sweet dark fruity esters and a dash of lactose. These notes come together pretty well.

Small stubby 320 ml can 6.3% thanks to Tobias picked up in Singapore. Pours a deep black color with a medium grey head. A rich nose mostly of metallic roast. Rich roasted malt, caramel, metallic bitterness, iron and even a bit of saltiness. Very nice. Reminds me a bit of the Nigerian Guinness, some heavy flavors. I’ve always liked the Guinness FES flavors.

320 ml can, at Singapore Airport Changi. ABV is 6.8%. Black colour, moderate beige head (no nitrogen). Roasty aroma and flavour, coffee notes, quite dry. Okay, but there is not much complexity here.

Can from JMD. Black with a medium tan head that lasts very well. Light roast aroma. Flavour is medium bitter. Toasred malt and a warming feeling at the start. Finish is dry and a little sweet. Texture is light creamy.

Black color, with a beautiful creamy head. Soft aroma. Strong mouthfeel; the taste is more acid than other Guinness FS, sugars, a lot of caramel and not too much roasted malt, sticky; different and pleasant. Only the final has too much roasted malt.
Bottled; had it in 2007-01-19

Singapore version, canned, tasted at 3 Nagas, Luang Prabang, Laos. This was 8.5% abv Black body with a thick light brown head. Very appetizing aroma of plums, raisins, sweet dark malts and a whiff of brettanomyces. Thick, rich body. Luscious dark chocolate, brett, sweet coffee, plums, nuts, wood and port...oh yeah. 5 8 9 4 18 = 4.5 5.5% version, brewed in Spore and consumed in Philippines. So they have really cut this beer down in size over the last several years. Dark brown, thin head. Smells like fes extract plus lager. Tastes like it, too. Thin, clean, kinda molassesy. Absolutely a disaster what they’ve done with this beer, a world classic just ten years ago. Today, just nothing. No reason to drink it.

(Can 32 cl) Very dark, but not completely black as you do sense a warm, reddish glow. Handsome and creamy beige head leaving some laces as it dissipates. Roasted aroma. Very full body with plenty of burned notes and an almost vinous acidity to it. Bitter finish mainly from the malts I reckon. Thanks to madsberg for this. 270206
