When we saw our head brewer Amy heading back from a nearby farm with a punnet of freshly-picked wild Scottish raspberries, we knew jam wasn’t on her mind. Sure enough, they were the latest under-bonnet tinkering with our beloved Old Engine Oil.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pitch black pour with small tan head and some lace. Nose has tons of roasted malt with coffee and chocolate . Raspberry only appears lightly in the nose. Flavour has light sweet caramel base with a medium- dark chocolate and coffee bitterness and just a slight raspberry tartness. Mouth is medium and velvety with soft carbonation and a dry finish. Don’t get the raspberry brightness that some have mentioned (and was actually hoping for some more raspberry presence) but this is enjoyable none the less. 8/3/7+/4/151

7 3 7 3 15 Bottle, shared at July THT, in front of Kwartje. Dark brown color. Uneven beige head. Aroma’s of raspberries, roasted malts. Retronasal roast is upfront, then raspberries and coffee. Flavor is roasty, sourish, bitterish. Light bodied. Long finish, roasted, bitter. Nice , but not entirely convincing.

Black with thin creamy head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of dark roasted malts. In th finish there’s a fair amount of sweet and sour raspberry. It gives a nice freshness to it.
