We brewed this ale only with the famous sake yeast No. 7 from Masumi Sake in Nagano, Japan. On advice from Masumi’s master brewers we fermented this ale very slowly at low temperatures to bring out No. 7’s fabulously fruity character. This is a beer, but has some flavors found in a sake. A great combination!

On tap. Pours a cloudy opaque dark amber with hardly any head. Strange herbal aroma and loadsa booze up the nose. Medium body, completely flat, very fruity and somewhat yeasty and otherwise just heavy booze. Fairly extreme. You definitely get the Sake touch here, but as a beer it’s not really that pleasant. Interesting experiment though. 200910

Bottled 25cl@Beer Hunters (batch 430 brewed 08/06/2009)
Slightly hazy orange color, tiny white head. Aroma of green apples, strawberries and straw/grains. Crisp carbonation but full-bodied. Very fruity brew, flavor has apples, strawberries, lots of alcohol (but not too burning). Lingering salty finish reminds me about #100. Strong, fruity but nothing really special. Gimmicks and fancy package are the most important things in this product.

Bottle. Hazy reddish/brown with a minimal white head. Very sweet, fruity aroma with some malt. Sweet, fruity taste with notes of alcohol. Reminded a bit of Rosé wine, but much stronger of course. An interesting beer in many ways, good but not excellent.

Very small yellowish head, short lived, over clear pale amber beer. Dry grapey US hops’ nose, bit of bananaester, and extremely perfumed, as rosewater. Quite sweet, again perfumed as rosewater, but also with the characteristic benzene-like aroma of sake, fortified. Syrupy, but not too much; very alcoholic. Hops all but gone, tastewise. Fiery alcoholburn/warming; slick to oily viscous. Indeed a succesfull interbreed between beer and sake. Not one to take lightly.

Bottle from Alko Arkadia - A very special kind of beer. Appearance is dark yet clear and copper-like coloured with minimal head. Taste reminds me of barley wines, but overall it isn’t nearly as sweet as most of them, even though it has some exotic fruitness and salty spiciness . Alcohol warms quite nicely but also dominates the taste a bit too much. Overall quite an exotic experience, and certainly a bottle you want to enjoy for as long as possible.

(Bottle from Alko Arkadia) Poured copper coloured and clear. Head was small and white. Aroma contained fruitiness, sweetness, malts and alcohol. Palate was medium bodied, sticky and warming with low carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, fruitiness, alcohol, treacle, malts, raisin and low bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet.

Bottle, at Patricks. I’ve been lucky to be able to follow this beer as it’s matured at the brewery, and I must say I’m delighted with the result. I’ve also tested a big glass of it without carbonation, that’s even better I think. Well, it pours a clear, reddish orange body almost without any head. A few bubbles that settles very fast is all. There’s a lot of canned fruits in the aroma, which also has a lot of generic fruityness and alcohol. Alcohol in a pleasant way that is. There’s hops in it too, but quite subdued. It’s full-bodied and warming in the mouth, with a lot of sweetness, that’s almost strange as it read less than 1.000 on the meter, but then it feels quite dry too. There’s lots of fruits, pineapple and peach mostly, a really pleasant bitterness, and a bitter, warming finish with fruityness. Beer? Technically it is, but it’s damn different, something one might easier expect from Mikkeller, but I really enjoyed this drink. On several occations. 100310

6th May 2010. On tap at the Mikkeller bar in Copenhagen. Cloudy orange brown beer - no head. Nose of wet dog and rich malt. Semi dry palate. Zero carbonation. Rich toffee caramel malt but salty too. Strong brandy tone that imparts some alcoholic warmth. Finishes brandyish and dry. Gum numbing!!!

Small white head. Hazy, paleish red body. Fantastic peppery lime and lemongrass aroma with earthy chemical fruity notes. Intense dry-sweet sugary alcohol lime and pepper taste with fruity citric notes. Light, delicate body. Hot, peppery mouthfeel. Incredibly fresh and delicate palate. Dry peppery intense lime aftertaste with lemongrass notes. Also acidic spicy cinnamon and cocos notes. Incredible! Have had this beer four times, and consider it among the very best I’ve tried. (0.25l bottle at Håndverkerstuene. Batch #430.)
