Our chestnut red coloured premium bitter is always a favourite at this time of year. Dark roasted malts and an abundance of English hops provide a superb balance of rich roasted flavours and resinous, hoppy bitterness.

Cask (backlog). Reddish brown colour, small white head. Aroma is nuts, raisins, muscovado, zest and some mild toasted notes. Flavour is quite similar in a good balance. Surprisingly bodied for being 4.6 %.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2011) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with red fruit and citrus. Malty, fruity taste with notes of citrus, orange marmalade and a generous citrussy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a balanced sweetness. Quite fruity and citric for an old ale, but nice and tasty.

Cask at the Old Fountain Beer Festival. Pours clear, amber-brown with a creamy, off-white cap. Malts and dark fruits in the nose. Nice flavor but doesn’t blow me away. Malty, lightly roasty, with hard bread and mild bitterness. Light to medum in body with soft carbonation. Mild sweet finish, more malts and faint roast, some light dryness. Good.
