Bottle @ home shared by Dutchdrebus and Thompson. Clear dark red color, average to medium sized light brown head. Smell and taste malts, a bit plant-like herbal flavors, a hint of coffee, roasted malts, plant-like bitterness in the finish. Hmm a bit weird, not your typical barley wine and I don’t really like it. Medium body and carbonation. Overall, meh not really my beer.

25th March 2017
Almost opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Looks like a stout! Palate is smooth and mildly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Tangy malts with contrasting creamy sweetness and bitter toffee. Ripe fruits and a little wood, almost like a BA beer. Some bitterness coming in the finish. Yeah - not bad.

0.33 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’, best before March 2018. Black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish, malty, moderately fruity, slightly resiny and a bit roasty aroma of caramel, dark fruits, pine and some chocolate. Sweetish, moderately bitter, malty, slightly fruity-resiny and a bit roasty taste of caramel, lots of dark fruits, chocolate and pine, followed by a medium long, rather dry-bitter, resiny and slightly roasty finish. Over medium-bodied, quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very nice!

33cl Bottle, sneak preview. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of tobacco, resin, caramel/toffee, some dark fruits, quite hoppy. Flavour is medium sweet, sticky and dry at the same time, tobacco, toffee, lots of resin, pine, light fruity, firm bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. Started out nice but became a bit of a chore to finish. The bottle I had was quite young, so perhaps it has mellowed out a bit by now. Bold beer.
