Bottle, 75cl corked. A dark golden beer with some microfloaties and a big, coarse off-white head. Cellar, malty sweetness, fruits and orange-peel notes in the aroma. The flavor has cellar, fruityness, some grainy flavors and a little alchol towards the finish. Some alcohol as well. Effervescent and dry in the mouth. A quite decent beer, but I prefer the blond. (6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is fruity with some citrus notes, light yeastiness and faint hoppiness. Sweetish flavor with some malt, nice fruitiness, caramel and a dry finish with faint citrus hints. Medium-bodied.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour with big beige creamy head. Aroma is fruity, hoppy, earthy, malty and yeasty. Flavour is the same along with quite strong grainyness. Yet all in a nice balance, making it a drinkable brew.

RBESG08 Grand Tasting Hazy orange/amber colour, huge white head. Dusty fruity hoppy nose. Nice sweet spicy grainy, lemony taste. Thought it was a lovely fruity tripel....ookaaay.

Bottled at RBESG. Hazy amber, lively head. Fruity appley nose. Sweet and juicy with light body. Some prunes and minerals. Finishes lightly soapy and resiny with medium bitterness. Rather simple beer.

RBESG2008: 75 bottle. Pours hazy orange with a huge white head. Light fruity and acidic aroma. Flavour is sweet fruity, yeasty and slight metallic. Ends dry and yeasty. Smooth and nice yet simple.

75cl bottle from Auchan, Calais .Cloudy deep gold with thick white lasting head. Yeasty, herby hop, bit woody, some citrus. Not exactly a typical amber. Too woody to be nice. Bit thin in flavour. Finish has more woody yeast. 2.4/5.0 Re-rate, I must have had a bad bottle. I think abbatiale are the best of the bieres des gardes i’ve had so far. this is yeasty and a little herby on the aroma over a toffeeish undercurrent. actually really rather tasty, the hoppy herb works well. good in mouth if a little candy sugary and hard. above all it is rather pleasing. some red berry fruit kicking in and the hop has a finishing party piece. better than the average ambree.
