750mL 3 feet thick wax. Pours dark copper almost brown color. Some light tan soapy head. Aroma is fortunately not big and bourbon-y. Dark, lightly alcohol woodsy, barrel malts but mellowy. A little chocolatey and the alcohol works without being over-the-top. Flavor is actually less alcoholy, I get a a good deal of age, a bit watery. Dark woodys malts. Not thick, reduced carbonation. If I drink a brown barleywine that is barrel aged, this would work. Of course, this price tag is restrictive. But I have to than my girl L-Black for sharing this with me, Billiam, and my lady.

Bottle - Sweet caramel and sweet bourbon notes. Cloudy brown with no head. Upfront barrel notes, caramel, vanilla and toffee. Not bad, but barrel heavy. Light on the palate.

Sample from 2009 bottle at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013: Clear copper-brown color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, malt and caramel. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, brown sugar, malt and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a caramel malt and oak aftertaste. Solid overall.

2nd October 2010
Slightly hazy dark red - brown beer. Residual off white head. Silky smooth palate, a little dry. Low carbonation. Light oaky bourbon nose. Bittersweet dark toffee. Bags of bourbon, lots of smooth oak but with just a light touch of vanilla oak and coconut. Semi dry finish. Boozy warming afterglow. Delicious!

2007 vintage bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Murky red-brown body, thin tan head to ring of carbonation. Oxidized nose with lots of raisin and prune in addition to caramel and alcohol; heavy and sweet with dusty dead yeast and hints of rubber cement. Layered, heavy, oxidized body with toast and prune, modest alcohol, and a dry wood or sawdust finish. Bourbon notes present but muted. Nearly flat. Drink now.

2007 vintage thanks to footbalm. Pours out dark copper with some red highlights topped with a sand head. Aroma was of caramel, spice, vanilla, wood, bourbon, and some rich malts. Taste was more of the sweetness chocolate, brown sugar, spice, bourbon, and some pit fruit.

Moved from my rating incorrectly placed as the regular Discombobulation, which I sampled several years ago at a beer fest where it was called Discombourbonlation. I see now that was just the first serving of this brew ---------------------------------- draft at Mad Anthony Oktoberfest - Pours dark brown with a thin head. The bourbon barrel aging shines through in the aroma that also features caramel malts and some dark fruit, perhaps plum. It tastes malty with a good hops balance and just the right amount of bourbon flavor to be noticeable without overwhelming the beer. The alcohol is just noticeable, definitely well concealed for being 10%. I agree with Hotstuff that this beer was the star of the show at this year’s MA Oktoberfest. They had it labeled "Discombourbonlation".
