Black Isle Brewing took their Scotch Ale, which they described as "liquid fruitcake" (and suggested pairing with Glenmorangie Lasanta) and aged it in a cask that previously held single malt whisky from Islay!

12oz bottle pours a watery rootbeer brown with some spitty, white head. Nose has straight soap, Irish Spring, peat too, salty. No beer anywhere in the aroma. Flavor is butterscotch and rootbeer... then straight salty/peaty scotch, rubber. Finishes thin. Bad.

Bottle at home. It pours deep brown with small bubbly beige head. The aroma is rich, smoked, earthy, slightly spicy, wood, dried fruits, honey & fig, plum and fruit cake The taste is rich, woody, loads of berry, jammy, plum, dried fruits, fruit cake, port, earthy, peat smoke, Islay whisky, light spice with a firmly dry, smoked finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Perhaps would be better with more body, but I rather like the flavour. Interesting and pretty tasty.
