Fergus Mor: the legendary king of Dal Riata was the founder of Scotland according to Medieval and Renaissance myth. Rulers of Scotland throughout its history have claimed descent from Fergus Mor. A fitting name for this, the first beer in the Campeador series, a barrel aged collaboration of Cigar City Brewing and Knightly Spirits. Fergus Mor is a blend of Big Sound Scotch Ale and Bolita Brown Ale, topped off with a wee bit of Imperial Stout and aged in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel. Limited release of 204 - 750ml bottles.

Wicked aroma of oak, vanilla, roasted malt, piney hops, cocoa, and caramel. Flavor is dominated by oaky vanilla caramel malt, and sweet cocoa. very complex beer, super tatsty, and a great sipping beer. The finish is slightly sweet, with a caramel, cocoa, vanilla oak aftertaste with a slight bitterness.

Bottle during RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours a cloudy brown with beige head that lasts. The aroma is roast, vanilla, and oak. Medium mouth with brown sugar, caramel, a lot of oxidation but still good.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a tiny beige head. Aroma is very fruity, with red fruits, caramel and cocoa. Flavour is mostly caramel malt, with light notes of smoke, cocoa and dark fruitiness. Not overly complex and sort of watery actually. Probably too old but not oxidized. Decent, though certainly overrated.

Bottle at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours clear brown with a fine, creamy beige head. Rich, sugary malts on the nose, slight oxidation, toffee, dried fruits. Big sweet flavor, heavy bread, caramel, dates, raisins. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, lots of sugary, ripe fruits, bread, light bitter leaves, toffee. Good stuff.

Bottle. Opaque dark brown liquid with small to medium light brown head. Aroma of sweet dried fruit, chocolate, bourbon, liquor, biscuit, port and light vanilla. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of dark fruit, chocolate. A bit bland. Full bodied with low carbonation. Very thick. Nice but too laid back taste.

Bottle 180/204. Cloudy brown beer, residual head. Light semi dry palate. Mild chocolatey malt, wood and a trace of bourbon. Whisper of coffee. Semi dry finish. Nice well balanced flavours but it’s somewhat unremarkable and less than the sum of it’s parts.

Entering old-rates.
