Bottle shared by badnewsbeers, 2009 vintage. Deep murky black-brown body, thin-medium clumping ochre head. Nose of cedar, honey, maple syrup, tangy molasses, coffee, and chocolate. Silky and dense. Rich, creamy body, with dusty cedar, cocoa powder, roasted, charred malts, and warming alcohol, not too sweet, but well-balanced. Slight oxidation. Vinous, plummy characteristics develop with warmth. Very good.

Bottle Pours out black topped with a tan head. Aroma of dark roast, chocolate, coffee, and lots of cedar. Taste was all the aroma and then some. Plenty of the sweet, rich, and dark malts. There was a little ash tray and of course the cedar. I am not sure if I am a cedar fan yet. I guess only time will tell as I drink more Humidor series beers.

6th June 2010. RBESG 10 Grand Tasting at the Brasserie 4:20 warehouse. Thanks Papsoe! Opaque black beer - dark brown head. Cedar on the nose. Rich soft dry palate. Tons of spicy cedar, peppery, mixed in with dark chocolate. Finishes dry. Really cedar dominated but pretty good stuff!

Bottle @ RBESG, Rome. Pours pitch black with a small creamy lasting dark brown head. Nose is very complex. Fruit, wood, chocolate, liquorice and chocolate. Heavy roasted flavor. Vague chocolate and loads of bitter roasted coffee. Quite ashy and peppery. Very dry and lasting end. Smooth and warm. A big beer . .

Location: On tap at Rattle 'N Hum, 2/20/10

Aroma: Chocolate, coffee, lots of wood (cedar), smoke, molasses, and roasted malts
Appearance: An opaque black pour with a brown head
Flavor: Woody flavors, lots of dark malt flavors, some dry earthiness too
Palate: Full bodied and somewhat thick, slightly oily
Overall Impression: Relatively similar to the regular version, but the cedar adds an obvious dimension. Brings out the earthiness and the dryness a little more, and in my opinion makes it just a touch better. It also makes it feel slightly less oily on the mouth, but overall, it doesn't take away from what makes the base beer so nice.
