Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Bottle. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma has a strong malt profile with a bit of an alcoholic bite. Flavor is full of roasted malts with a nice crisp finish. Quite thin on the tongue.

Lovely, dark and deep. Pours a thick, dark brown with a beige head. Nose is coffee and roasted malts. Taste is more malts and coffee. I also got that "burnt" taste - which is a good taste, by the way. A filling beer that I enjoyed very much.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a very small light tan head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is roasted malt with caramel and chocolate. Decent spotty lacing along the glass. Thin mouthfeel with a roasted malt taste with chocolate and coffee flavors and a dry finish. Easy to drink, a good dry strout from Mendocino.

12 oz bottle from a Winter Beer 10 Pack purchased at World Market for me by my wife. Pour is black, slight ruby with a one inch khaki head that falls fast with some lacing. Aroma of milky coffee roasted malt, some slight pine bitter hoppiness. There is also bit of a vegetable (green pepper) smell which doesn’t seem quite right. Its mild, but does detract. Taste is initially burnt roast coffee malt, followed by a crisp pine dry finish. Palate is medium to thin, moderately carbonated and dry as mentioned. This one was quite crisp and refreshing.

Very dark brown, with a thin head. The aroma is roasty, chocolatey with a hint of nuttiness. Somewhat thin and fizzy, but also with a lot of roast. A hint of hop at the end, but overall quite austere.

Interesting beer, thanks to ilovedarkbeer. Pours very dark brown, and a light brown head that fizzes away. Aroma of soy, brown sugar, licorice, chocolate, alcohol and smoke. Taste is sweet and fruits, metallic and watery with a roasty finish. Watery mouthfeel with light bubbles.

Pours dark brown with tan head. Burnt malt aroma. Flavor of roasted malt with some bitterness. Thin body for a stout. Minimal carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

12oz bottle pours dark dark brown with infra red edges and light brown head. The aroma is mildly roasty and burnt along with larger notes of molasses, toffee and buttered bread. Wow, I really like the flavor. I get notes of roasty to burnt to dark chocolate notes that run along with sweet molasses and malts. Midway and to the finish the burnt malts build to overcome the sweeter notes and become nearly burnt toast.

Bottle. Poured black with foamy white head. Malty aroma with a hop note. Medium body malty flavour with bittersweet chocolate and a coffee note. Something of a bland finish. This is not a bad stout, but not one to rave about.

12oz Bottle Pours out a light black topped with a nice cream tan head. A nice aroma of roast malt. Tast of light roast malt. I also picked up a touch of smoke. A pretty nice simple Stout.
