Sweet and smooth porter from Lyon. Ninkasi Noire is a sweet , smooth beer, with aromas of caramel and chocolate. This beer is inspired by an old brown beer, brewed in the 19th century Lyon and known throughout France. At the time, the town had numerous breweries, but they gradually disappeared with the arrival of the industrial era. The use of coffee and caramel malts give it its unique aroma. Assuredly a typical Lyonnais beer.

Sweet-ish, dark malty and fruity aroma, notes of blueberry, hints of blackberry, some roast, hints of roasted nuts, caramel, white coffee, a touch of tar. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty and bitter hoppy, a sweet-ish touch of caramel, fragmentary hints of bramble and blueberry; minimally metallic finish, prickling carbonation.

T42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Fergus. Clear deep amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and slightly soft. Modest fine carbonation. Tangy vinous fruits. Mild Flemish r3d vibe - little red wine. Light dry finish. Sour porter? Works out okay in the end.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Fergus. Pours clear gold-brown with a frothy, tan head. The aroma holds old leather, ripe berries, faint caramel. Light sweet flavour with musty-woody dryness, more beat-up leather, tangy berries, a little earth. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Quite dry on the finish, with more musty character, wood, more leather and tangy berries. So so.

Bottle thanks to Fergus at level 42. It pours clear deep brown with a small beige head. The aroma is soft, sweet, brown sugar, umami, dried fruits, dark fruits, roasted malt and toast. The taste is smooth, bitter - sweet, toasted, tangy fruits, berry, must, earthy, damp wood, leather and candy with a short, dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a huge amount of depth.
