A beautifully dark imperial Irish stout made with Tahitian vanilla bean, mint, vanilla and lactose. The tan head is as tasty as it is inviting. Come on in from the cold and slide into the holidays with cool notes of peppermint, roasty malts, and deep chocolate.

16 oz. can from HEB in Boerne, TX. Pours a very dark brown color with a light brown head and good retention. Very good lacing. Roasted malt and dark chocolate aroma. A mix of sweet milk chocolate, bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts, and a subtle hint of peppermint in the finish. A little boozy too, but the flavors help cover the sting. Medium body. Light carbonation. A nice winter warmer that's restrained enough to enjoy.

Pours near black with a dark tan head. The aroma is overwhelmingly of peppermint. The sweet flavor, at first, is mostly peppermint. As it warms, chocolate malt and a hint of vanilla comes through but thereβs still ample mint. Itβs enjoyable and quite good, but to me it could have been great with a bigger stout.

16 oz. Almost 14 months old. Aroma has notes of candy cane, dark bread, vanilla, coffee. Pours pitch black with a one+ finger dark tan head with excellent retention. Taste is very lightly sweet with a moderate herbal bitterness, finishing dry; flavors like the aroma descriptors. Nice velvety perfectly carbonated mouthfeel. Interesting idea to use a dry Irish stout as the base. Beer has held up well after more than a year. Not bad at all; better than its scores suggest.

Big pounder can for $3. Pour is big and black as well as large and in charge. Choco moose head goes craggy. Smell is same old same old imperial stout. No sign of candy cane on the olfactory. Definitely imperial stout but it has just enough impact to be peppermint. Not over the top, but you know its there. This stuff adds and extra dimension to strong imperial stout. Yes, its big and bold, as well as insulting, to the lager lover yet; it has a strange candy magic about it. Candy cane? Just asking. Maybe or not. More interesting than the typical impy stout? Maybe not but it never goes completely off the rails. At least it does have some co2 on the palate clear to the end, but just barely.
