There are a few things that are quintessentially ‘Michigan’ and many would argue that cherries top that list. We brewed Cerise as a celebration of our home state’s official fruit, showcasing what Northern Michigan does best. Ruby red in color and brewed with 100% tart, Michigan cherries, Cerise is as close you’ll get to tasting the real thing without picking it off the tree.

Big glass from Valhalla. Poured an ambery and reddish tinge. Aroma of cherries and some malts as well, same taste which was syrupy.

Can from Holiday Market. Pours an orange red color with a finger of off-white foam that dissipates. Faint sakura mochi aromas with some light biscuity malt aromas. Crisp and clean on the palate with sweet cherry and light herbal flavors. Lingering mineral and cherry flavors on the finish. Sweet but not overly so.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy red with small pink head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is cherry skin, oak, and grain. Thin mouthfeel with light tart cherry and wheat with light tart finish, decent.

Reviewed from notes. Bottled 05/24/2012. Consumed 07/22/12.
Into a pint glass (also a snifter, nothing changed).
The appearance has a hazy strawberry red body that is too cloudy to see any carbonation. A small white head mushroom capped and turned into the body within ten seconds.
The smell has some cherry and alcohol up front with some grains and malts very lightly in the background.
The taste, well this really gets me kinda the wrong way: its way tart and sweet through the cherry combining with the malts, reminds me a bit of cherry pie once I noticed how the malts combined.
The palate sits about a light to medium with slight carbonation felt on the tongue.
Overall, well, I never had a cherry pie for a beer, but with the alcohol smell I can tell its a beer. Two more, I probably will be able to finish, but will probably not buy this again.

Although fruit beers are not really my thing, I discovered the redeeming effects of them after a long hot day working on the lawn. Refreshing, tangy cherry aroma and taste, although I think Founders didn’t do themselves any favors with the malts they chose to provide the backbone with this one. The fruit alone is enough to impart the thirst quenching flavors, but the cloying malt flavor goes against that and ruins it. Finish not great.

35,5 cl bottle @ O’Hara’s Freehouse. Rated on 17.04.2010
Aroma is somewhat sweet with lots of cherries and some fruit sugar. Flavour is rather strong on cherry juice, also some leathery notes, fruit sugar and slight tartness. Not my thing, luckily I shared this bottle was with Pat and olio...

Crazy deep ruby tinted coloured body with a bit of pink and a definite pink head, about two centimetres thick - very nice looking. Aroma of pale malt, alcohol, a bit of metal, and some light cherries - not very strong smelling at all. Medium-bodied; Strong sweet and sugar flavour at first with a bit of malt, some cherry sweetness and a light hint of nuts, earth and more sweetness. Aftertaste is mainly just sweetness with a hint of earth and a little cherry flavour - not much though. Overall, a good beer, but it’s lack of real cherry flavour is not good, but it’s sweetness and mild flavours overall are nice. Good to try, but don’t expect a great beer here - if you want a real cherry beer, grab a kriek lambic from belgium! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 26-December-2012 for US$1.99 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 18-January-2013.
