AleSmith is proud to release this long-awaited and intensely aromatic Russian Imperial Stout with Vietnamese coffee. We traditionally brew Vietnamese coffee, known as cà phê sữa đá, with a phin-style filter that gently percolates water through ground coffee. The result is a chocolaty and bold tasting coffee that perfectly complements the notes of oak, vanilla, and spice in this massive rye whiskey barrel-aged stout.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is chocolate forward with some light roast notes. Medium light rye whiskey notes with some light oak. Hints of spicy malt notes with some caramel and toffee notes. Moderate coffee notes with some light alcohol spice and a bit of creaminess. Pours black with a small dark mocha head that recedes steadily to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with chocolate, light roast, toasted bread, caramel and toffee. Moderate coffee notes with a light nuttiness and a bit of creaminess. Light rye spice with some alcohol spice in the finish. Moderate whiskey notes with some light oak. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice stout but I still like the regular Vietnamese Speedway Stout the best. The barrel character gets a bit in the way of coffee and malt character, but the beer is still really nice.

On tap at Alesmith Brewing/Anvil & Stave. Pours black with tan to light brown head. Roasted malts, lots of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, some rye, dried dark fruit, whiskey. Sweet, thick, chewy, complex, but still smooth. Bit warming, but no excessive alcohol. Full bodied. Out of 6 Speedways tried at the brewery this one was best for me.
