Nest’s first beer, the original version made by Boelens; intended to be called Schuppen Zot at first but Halve Maan prevented this by taking legal steps to protect the name of their Brugse Zot. Off-white head, peach blonde colour. Aroma of orange, banana, honey, sour cream, grass, apple, pear and unfortunately a lot of DMS (cooked vegetable) bringing the whole out of balance. Malty taste, citrussy, apple, white candi sugar, sourish accent, grassy hops in the finish and retronasally there’s that awful DMS again. I urgently have to re-rate this to see if the current version has improved - and if I have to believe what other beer people who are personally acquainted with this brewer tell me, it has...

08/V/14 - 33cl bottle from the brewers @ home - BBE: 2010 (2014-1574) Thanks to Bart from Het Nest for the bottle!
Little cloudy orange to beige beer, aery fizzy white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: oxidized, orange peel, some marzipan, sweet, bit spicy, short bread. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: orange peel and marzipan, almonds, little sourish, bread dough, bit sugary. Aftertaste: surprisingly dry, bit sourish, soft bitterness, very spicy, peppery notes, cloves, coriander and orange peel (the latter might just be the oxidation though), port notes are very present. Has aged pretty well, I liked it!

Bottle at LCRBM 2009, Kulminator, Antwerp
Clear blond body, white fizzy/creamy head. Quite nice aroma of hops and some yeast. Quite refined and subtle. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet flavour. Not as astringent as the newer versions. Quite nice.

Small transparant head, over metallic golden beer with orange highlights. Peppery & spicy aroma, horseradish, but subdued. Sharp toasted flavour, ending in honey, as from honingbollen. Light body, but nowhere emtpy palate. Long-lasting spiced maltsweetness, if that makes sense. Definitely not bad - it has a little (toasted?) something that more dull beers miss.
