With its unique citrus character, smooth drinkability, and distinctive hop character, Drifter Pale Ale is truly an original. Brewed with generous amounts of Summit hops, a variety known for their intense citrus flavors and aromas, Drifter has a taste unique to the Pale Ale category. True to style, the bittering hops are perceptible enough to give the beer a crisp, clean, quenching finish, yet also soft enough to keep the beer smooth and balanced.

Deep copper tinted light amber body with a very thin tan head. Aroma of fresh mild hops, some malt and caramel - fairly muted. Medium-bodied; Assertive hops up front with a lot of caramel, a touch of malt and not much else behind. Aftertaste shows some subtle hops, but very little else - a mild beer indeed. Overall, pretty standard for a Widmer - not very pleasant and not showing ANY complexity at all. Not really worth trying. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 15-April-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 03-May-2010.

12oz bottle. Hazy orange-brown. Thin soapy head. "Cool" grapefruit bitter hop aroma, very nice. A pretty middle of the road West Coast Pale Ale, with a soft but pronounced hop backbone. Toasty malt tones, at times approaching a very light brown ale. Medium bodied, a session beer that still has some quality and character.

12 oz bottle. Nice hoppy nose--grapefruit, pine. Pours copper with watery lacing. Taste is moderately bitter at first; finishes even more bitter. Medium bodied. Overall a pretty good APA, but there’s better out there.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright orange-amber color with a meidum sized orange-tan head. The aroma was strong floral, grapefruit and pine. The flavor was bitter, tart and fruity with notes of grapefruit, pineapple and lemon and an undertone of light sour nutty malths. The finish was long, dry, bitter and hoppy. Medium body. Good.

Bottle: Poured a light golden color ale with a small foamy head with good retention and not much lacing. Aroma of light citrus hops with nice mango ester. Taste is a nice mix between some citrusy hops with nice mango notes and a light caramel backbone. Body is about average with good carbonation. Very well done with nice mango ester and well balanced sweetness.
