An abundance of roasted malts and flaked barley create a rich, roasty stout with deeply intense, lush flavors. Layered, nuanced tones invite intrigue and reward a curious palate.

Throwdown. I like this alot. Smooth malty and with alot of roast and sweet caramel chocolates. Full bodied. Luscious is a good word here. Dark brown/black color.

Bottle Packed back from one of my beer mules. Strait from New Holland. Pours out almost pitch black a little brown. topped with a tan head. A nice sweet aroma of roast and chocolate. Tast more of the sweetness and roast malt. I also picke up some moleasses. pretty good.

Bottle: Dark brown near black with a big tan head. Aroma is roasty and choco filled with some light bitters. Taste retains a lot of roastiness, chocolate, coffee, and into some bittersweetness. A bit hot still. I would love to age one... maybe compare it to a Stone RIS? The mouthful was excellent in richness and body. Thanks Jeremy!

Black beer. Loads of malt and a little sweet. Thick, rich palate, but the sweet malt flavor with the heavily roasted, almost burnt grain doesn’t work for me.

Bottle from Whole Foods Raleigh. Pours thick, viscous black with no head. Toffee, caramel, grainy aroma. Thick mouthfeel. Tastes of mocha, chocolate. Nice.

Bottle. Thick black pour that slowly releases a one finger orangish tan head. Aromas are a lovely mix of burnt malt scents that are reminsicent of peat and a little smoke, coffee and dark chocolate, soy sauce and a little touch of alcohol. Flavor is more of the same with a thick alcoholic bite to it. Molasses and soy flavors come through stronger in the taste than in the nose. Nice, but there is a little bit too much bite to the alcohol at cellar temperature.

Wooooooh, black as used harley oil. Has a foamy choco mousse head. that fades after a few minutes to a tea froth. Roasty chocolaty aroma that comes across rather attractive and inviting. However, first taste yanks you back to rude imperial stout reality. A just plain illiterate stout at best. Hints of bitter chocolate in the flavors, lets chew on old campfire coals. Finish is 40 miles of bad road. Biting terrible linger. perfect for this style.

On draught at Bodega. Pours nearly black with a thin light brown head that recedes steadily. Thin rings of lace on the glass. Aroma of cocoa and coffee along with some roasted malt. Rich, smooth body with coffee, chocolate and malt flavors, as well as touches of alcohol and hops. The finish is moderately bitter coffee with a lingering hops aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable throughout.

Dark brown body, not syrupy, though, topped by a thin tan head. Heavy chocolate aroma with charred, roasted malts, coffee, soy, and alcohol, bitter, heavy, and hot. Sharp body with appropriate heft, dominated by roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate, but also featuring dark fruits (prune, plum), caramel, molasses, and bitter hops. Chewy and thick, finishing bitter and somewhat harsh. There is certainly a lot going on here, but this is a case of the whole not being the sum of the parts, as the alcohol and, to a lesser degree, charred notes infringe on the palate. I’d like to sample this one again in six months to a year.
