Pugsley's Signature Series
Barley Wine Style Ale is a big beer made with six different malts (Pale Ale, Crystal, Caramunich, Wheat, Chocolate and Roasted Barley) and balanced with a very full hop charge of Summit, Challenger and Fuggles hops. It is a deep reddish brown color with a complex fruity nose, a very full body, and an interesting balance between grains and hops which ends with a pleasing dry taste. To fully enjoy all the flavors, this ale is best drunk at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. 8.5% alcohol by volume.

Bottle from Jcwattsrugger. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose/taste of buttered toast, caramel, molasses and light pine without the resin. Medium body. Semi-sweet.

Smells of chocolate, yeast, wheat, alcohol and barley. Hidden in the midst of all that is the light fuggles and other hops. Pours a reddish brown with a decent head and a little lacing. Taste has some sweetness, some bitterness. Very complex on palate - this seems very underrated. There’s a lot going on in this beer.

@Emporium-on tap-pours very dark copper with a cascading tight foamy tan head and heavy lacing. Aroma is medium malt with some sweet, spice. Taste follows. Not what I would consider in the barleywine style box.

A deep dark brown barley wine with a thick lacing brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, licorice, light sulfur, OK. In mouth, sweet caramel malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, dark fruits, licorice notes, alcohol warmth, OK.

Pours a dark maroon with decent head and good lacing. Tastes of cola, chocolate, dark cherries, earth, with some slight soy sauce. A tad sweet and drying on the finish.

Pours a really dark brown with ruby highlights when held to the light. Smallish off white head disappears quickly. Smells of chocolate, butter, caramel, toffee. Taste is chocolaty buttery hoppy. Leaves a bitter/astringent taste in my mouth. Body is medium to thin the beer finishes dry. Mouthfeel is oily, carbonation is light. I tried to enjoy this, but I could not. The color is too dark for the style, the flavor profile is all wrong. The astringent taste ruined this one for me. At 1o bucks a bottle never again!

Bottle at Brewforia Beer market, Meridian, ID. Hazy deep redish amber. Lots of sweet carmely in the aroma. Very little hop notes here. Flavor is more bitter than anticipated with a big woody tannin like trailer. at "only" 8.5% and fairly dry, it is not particularly full or satisfying. Plenty of late IBUs... A decent strong beer though. Thanks, Rick for sharing this one.

Bottle shared by Shane, thanks! Poured a near clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of sweet grain, caramel and toffee with a slight sour note. Flavor was similar with sweet grains and caramel and an off fruit note.
