Captain Sig's Deadliest Ale

Tap @ Cask Pub and Kitchen, London. Pours amber red with a small off white head. Sweet caramel and citrus. Dry and smooth with a bit of grapefruit hops. Bitter end.

Copper brown color, small beige head, lace. Nutty, caramelly, piney aroma. Medium-bodied. Nutty caramelly backbone, piney-resiny hoppyness. Nicely in balance.

Bouteille 650ml titrant à 5,9%. De couleur ambrée foncée et très légèrement voilée. Nez de houblon résineux, légèrement terreux et aux notes citriques, malté de caramel toffee sucré, moyen de fruits (agrumes sucrées, notes d’abricots) avec des traces de biscuits. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture légèrement résineuse. Goût légèrement fruité (agrumes, traces d’abricots) accompagné d’un goût amer de houblon citrique (pamplemousse, une amertume présente toute la gorgée) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût malté de caramel toffee avec des notes de biscuits graham puis en finale l’amertume de houblon prend un cap asséchant, assez résineux, légèrement terreux et aux notes résineuses puis l’on remarque également quelques notes de noix. Post-goût long et plutôt sec, moyen-amer de houblon résineux, légèrement citrique et aux notes herbeuses et terreuses avec des notes fruitées (zest d’agrumes).

Bottle @ home. Deep amber brown appearance with a sizable, light brown head. Earthy, resiny hoppy, lightly nutty, pale malty nose. Light grapefruit citrusy, bitter, pale/caramel malty flavor. Earthy, bitter aftertaste.

Another Rogue at the LCBO, bring ’em on ! Pours a hazy deep caramel-amber colour with a big creamy beige head, great retention and nice lacing. A beautiful mild hoppy aroma comes out of this one with notes of orange zest. It is written that 9 ingredients are used, as Carastan, Chocolate, Rogue’s barley malts, rebel hops, free range coastal water and Pacman yeast. Tastes like an American IPA with the piney grapefruit bitterness, but milder, with no so much bite as some others. I do not taste the Chocolate, but I assume that this is what tames down the bitter hop. An overall pretty interesting different India Pale Ale.

Pour is a dark red on top to a almost straw color on the bottom. Aroma is caramel, the usual rogue oily hops and some chocolate. Flavor is more of the same. Oily hops follow by a heavy malt with some cocoa left on the tounge. Not really and IPA and not really an American strong. Some where in beteween but still kinda tasty and different.

Classic grapefruit and caramel nose, tea notes also prominent. Dingy brown, medium yellow head, minimal glass adherence. Tea, lemongrass, and grapefruit rind flavor.. Finish is very odd and out of place for the rest of the beer as it leaves Leinkugel’s-like crunch berry cereal, blueberry, and rosehips on the palate. A bit resinous and artificial. Unique, but not necessarily in a good way. Solid, if not weird beer.

Briny, bitter beer for a briny, bitter captain. I guess. I mean, I’m not really sure how happy or unhappy Mr. Hansen may be about his life. But I’m quite positive he’s one briny sumbitch. Looks great, pouring a deep orange-red with a huge head that settles in for a long stay. Smells hoppy, yes, but the Pacman yeast odor provides strange sweetness. I wish I liked Deadliest Ale more than I do, being a devoted watcher of the TV show, but this IPA is rather one-note: bitterness. Bitter, bitter, bitter. Piney, resinous northwest hops cling to every part of the brew; not that it’s a bad thing, but just a bit much, and they don’t really mix with Pacman fruitiness. Feels silky and thick, though, which makes this beer easier to put away than it should be. (6/3/09)

reviewed 6/25/2009 Saw this for the first time at my local today, what the hell its Thursday why not. Pours a pours a deep dark copper color with a huge bubbly beige head that sticks around forever. Large rings of foam impale themselves to the glass as I drink it down. Caramel and some bready malts mixed with a grapefruit bitterness find their way to my nose. Bitter hops in the taste, mostly of the citrus persuasion. Not a whole of malt come through in the taste. Just the slightest of caramel and dried plums flash in for a second when its warmer, but that gets drowned out by a dry citrusy bitter finish. Carbonation is medium to high, body is medium to thin, mouthfeel is resinous. Not a bad Red ale. I thought this would be tamer than it is to appeal to the masses, I’m glad I was wrong.
