The Roman name for the Low Countries–is a marriage of the best in American and Belgian brewing traditions. Belgian pilsner malt, a generous amount of American and European hops and a unique Belgian yeast strain combine to give Belgica big notes of citrus and spice, creating a lively concoction perfect for spring in the Rockies–or the Ardennes. 7.2% ABV.
First released as Belgian IPA:
Just for fun, the brewers took our Titan, a hop forward American IPA and introduced a Belgian yeast strain to it. The result is unique Belgian-style ale with lots of fruity esters, a citrus hop flavor and nice hop bitterness that’s surprisingly smooth. 7.5% alcohol by volume.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a pale yellow with a medium white head. Smells like bananas, lemons, cloves, and wheat. The flavor is very sweet with a smooth bitterness in the finish. I just tried the Titan IPA, and this does taste and feel very similar. Its a lot sweeter and smoother, but has the same hop profile. The mouthfeel is also similar to the Titan. The Titan is an excellent IPA, which shows, but the changes don’t do much to improve this beer.

(bottle, 35.5cl) Cloudy, pale golden colour with a giant foamy white head. Very spicy aroma with notes of thistles, vanilla, herbal hoppy accents and a citric fruity touch. Bitter flavour with a lighter malty sweetness, medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Solid malty and a bit wheaty taste with citric and herbal hops; moderately dry and bitter-sweet finish, again with spicy and fruity notes. Cool Belgian – American hybrid. 05.VIII.10

Had this sat at the camper, Landsmeer, Nr Amsterdam, Netherlands, 22-06-10 Pours gold with a slightly hazy white head on top. Belgian yeast on nose, taste is spice, hoppy and whilst and IPA its not sharp or hard or too sweet, its nicely bitter, some citrus flavours showing. Good beer that goes well with our Thia Green Curry that we just made outside the camper. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov15 3.7

Hazy light gold - effervescent body - moderate lace - overly sweet nose of pils malt, floral hops, a touch of belgian yeast character, wet cardboard, and a pronounced root plant kind of quality - bitter and citrusy up front, with some floral notes through the middle - a little sweet in the middle, but not as much as the aroma suggests - begins to develop the starchy and mildly vegetal character that a lot of GD belgians have near the finish, which leads me to believe that they really need to seek out a new belgian yeast strain to use in their brews - moderately estery in the finish, but with a vaguely artificial/plastic quality lingering on the tongue - spicy hops keep that from becoming overly obviously - not terrible, but still a seriously flawed beer.

bottle - Pours copper with a lingering head. It smells of citrus accented hops and some spicy yeast character. The flavor includes light malt, ample hops bitterness, citrus and obvious Belgian yeast spice. Later the same night I had Stone’s Cali Belgique again. The Belgica has more Belgian yeast coming through in the flavor and more moderate hops whereas with the Stone, the intense hops are easily the dominant flavor.

Bottle from Melger’s Wijn-en Drankenhandel, Haarlem. Poured a clear amber colour with a fading medium sized white head. Nose was sweet malt and yeast, with some slight fruit and spice notes. Smooth mouthfeel. Quite belgian yeasty in the flavour with some wheat and citrus lurking with that slight spiciness . Finished with some hop bitterness. Decent enough hybrid.
