This beer, amber and bitter although light and fresh, is brewed on the basis of high quality raw materials. Very digestible, it gives off fruity aromas making it particularly tasty. A family recipe, it exists since 1993, at first brewed by l'Achouffe but nowadays it is brewed at the Brasserie des Trois Fourquets / Brasserie Lupulus.

Orange color, chunks of yeast. Honey and apple aroma and flavor. Yeasty and alcoholic. Some hopbitterness. Rather nasty apple, glue and bubblegum aftertaste.

Commissioned by Detrembleur in Vielsalm, tasted this many years ago but now re-rating from a special label edition, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Macralles du Val de Salm. Very thick, rocky, thickly ’papery’ lacing, beaten egg-like head, off white, residing over a lightly hazy peach blonde beer, becoming all cloudy and a bit ochre-ish with yeast sediment added. Aroma of ripe pear, gooseberry, straw, turnip, baker’s yeast, young ’jenever’, freshly cut grass, field flowers, peach, banana, coriander seed, white bread, jute, white pepper, hints of cooked chicken, horseradish, dough and salsify. Fruity onset, impressions of pear, gooseberry, banana and yellow plum, sweetish and sourish well in balance with each other, fizzy carbo but not overcarbonated for a tripel, full and smooth malt body, bready and lightly caramelly, spicy yeast notes, ’fluffy’ but slick mouthfeel, minerally accents, dryish finish with earthy and grassy hop bitterishness as well as a ’rooty’, bready yeastiness and warming, ’jenever’-like alcohol, but not astringent, though it does ’burn’ a little bit on the lips. Stereotypical for a Belgian tripel, fruity, sweet (but not overly so compared with many others) and alcoholic, but very well balanced with a good balance of sweet and bitter, warming and quite satisfying, and technically flawless. Doesn’t quite reach the quality level of the great trappist tripels (Westmalle of course but Chimay as well) but this is certainly a decent Belgian tripel. Was discontinued after Moortgat took over Achouffe in 2006 but apparently Trois Fourquets took over and this brewery being closely linked to Achouffe, it comes as no surprise that this beer has not really evolved throughout the years.

Flaska från Etre Gourmet. BBD just passerat. Klar, gyllenfärgad med stor toppig bestående skumkrona. Snyggt!
