Bottle from Pig’s Ear 2008, bottled November 2006, 4 years old
Hazy amber color; almost flat. The malt and caramel aroma is quite nice; there is also some alcohol; a bit nutty. Very sweet, caramel and malt flavor, mellow, with a nutty touch. Considering the 14%, the alcohol is quite hidden. It doesn’t show signs of age or oxidisation. As I love Barley Wines, this is a good sweet juice, even if without big complexity; the version of the following year is more complex; this one goes well if you look for sugars.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thick white head. The aroma has notes of vegetables and alcohol as well as light notes of oxidation. The flavor is sweet with notes of honey, malt, alcohol, flowers, and over ripe fruits, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Big thanks to madmitch76 for sending this 0.33L bottle across the pond. It pours clear copper with almost no head. The aroma is thick syrupy rich chewy estery fruitiness with some sweet slick malts in there for a bit of variety. The taste is smooth rich mead like sweetness followed by loads of light and dark colored fruity estery goodness. To midway the rich sweet fruitiness is joined by a stave of earthiness and slick smooth malts. Wow, this has aged wonderfully.

Bottle at Pig’s Ear BF. Rich deep red/copper colour with no head. Strong alcohol, strong fruit aroma. Just very very strong syrupy malt and alcohol. Raisins. Intense. Some vinegar. I don’t think I enjoyed it as much as the rest of the table. Not enough diverse flavours for me from a barley wine. Just too much malt and alcohol.
