In 1873 in a small place in Banja Luka, beside the Vrbas grove, a brave little Banja Luka brewery was created by the work of a trappist monk from the Marija Zvijezda monastery. The founder of this small brewery was Franz Pfanner, the leader of the Trappist Order in Banja Luka, who together with other monks, besides the brewery, also established a cheese factory to produce the famous Trappista cheese, as well as one of the first power plants in Europe, adhering to his modest lifestyle and chore "Pray and work" ("Ora et labora").

33 cl bottle poured to glass at Three Brothers Serbian Restaurant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The pour is a light pale yellow with a foamy white head that is lasting. The aroma is soft sweet malt and not much more. The taste is clean cereal malt, softly sweet with honey malt. The palate is light bodied with soft carbonation and a pleasantly lingering sweet finish. Solid.

Bottle from Shop & Save, Downers Grove. I finally get a rare chance to tick off another country. Well, the good news: it pours a nice golden color, with a fizzy head. But the smell has the same skunk of so many East European lagers that sat on the shelf. Impressions of solvent, ethanol, anything but malt. Some bitterness, but it's no match to the unhappy rest of the beer.

50 cl can from tosano. Pale golden color, some particles, bubbly white head. Smell canny and somewhat floral. Flavor of apple, cardboard, corn starch. Kind of lagery, sugars... yuck. Sticky, oily, somewhat heavy-bodied but not in a good way. Nothing good about this one, really.

500ml can from Birdekel in Moscow. Pours clear gold with a tall white head. Aroma is malt, hay. Taste is light sweet, malt, corn. Light bitter finish. Light bodied.

Klare gelbe Farbe mit weißer Schaumkrone. Malziger, getreidiger Geruch. Geschmacklich malzig, getreidig, schwach hopfig. Mittlere Süße mit leichter Bitterkeit, leichter bis mittlerer Körper mit spürbarer Kohlensäure.
