I believe I had the original (1999) vintage, bottled, as well as subsequent batches through 2004, no idea why I never rated this. Pours a clear, cherry-ruddy-amber, large, beige head with moderate retention. Bright red fruits, soft vanilla and plentiful toffee with perhaps less alcohol and monotonous medium malts than some (certainly was better in that regards in its time). Soft, malty, rich, sweet, toasted and with figs, cherries, raisins and vanilla. Drying alcohol but not hot. Lingering toast, caramel, toffee and such. Yeah, it's a big barleywine. Younger bottles do exhibit some piney-like hop bitterness, which is appreciated. Nothing revolutionary or overly interesting, but passable and competent.

From Nov 2007
his is the 2006 vintage and I got it in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John!
This pours from 22oz bottle a cloudy orange amber with a small head of foam with some lacing. Not much foam to shrink down to but there's still a fine layer as I near the end of my session.
The smell has notes of caramel malt, hops, and some spice.
The taste at first sip is hugely malty. Lots of nice caramel flavour permeate my every taste bud. Next sip brings the hoppy goodness with notes of floral hops and some grapefruit and some nice fruity tones both dark and not so dark.(plum and apricot) And boy are they working well together as in, this puppy is really well balanced! You love hoppy brews, this one is for you. You love malty brews, ditto.
It has a medium bordering on full mouthfeel and it's lightly carbonated. It finishes slightly bitter but there's still a good malt presence there as well. And I'm sipping on it straight from the fridge! Time to set it aside and let it warm up a bit, methinks.
(about a half hour later)
As it warmed up, all the flavours became more intense but I still find it very drinkable. Very nice BWSA and one I'd drink again with no qualms.

Really nice, aged well. Dry, not too heavy. Slight medicinal aftertaste. Hides the booze well.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Vintage 2012. Pours slightly hazy copper with an ecru head. Aroma of raisins and booze. Flavors of caramel and bitter citrus. Bitter finish.

Sample from 2007 batch at Denver Rare Beer Tasting VI on 10/03/2014. Dark amber color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Patchy lacing. Aroma of malt, pine and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, citrus and resiny hops. The finish is sweet with a charred malt and caramel aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

2012 vintage in 22 oz. bottle Darker amber with thin beige head. Wine like malty aroma with alcohol very much in the forefront. Some oak barrel, peat and caramel. Taste (once past the alcohol heat) is malt, caramel and some spiciness. Excellent winter quaff. Recently sampled 2007 vintage also, ages wonderfully.

2011. Smells hoppy, malty and boozy. Pours reddish orange with decent creamy head and some decent lacing. Strong barley bitterness and roast malt. This is a bit of a booze bomb - especially at first. It winds down and evens out as it warms up though. Alright. Very well priced at $4.50 a bottle.

65 cl bottle reserve 2011 @ vPBF, no BBE info
Aroma is a bit weird and stale with some vanilla and berries. Flavour is rather harsh with nettles, some gooseberry bush and hints of fruits. Very thin for this ABV. It seems that the hops here have gone not‐so‐fresh and nothing nice has been gained in return.

Bottled@vPBF2012. Deep amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some alcohol, some mild grass. Flavour is being rather similar in a quite nice way.
