A deliciously rich barleywine that has spectacular depth and delicacy of flavor that is deep and robust. Its strong, sweet body is balanced with Centennial and Crystal hops for a pleasant hoppiness and finish. Makes a great cellar beer. Available in 22oz. bottles and draught year round. ABV 9% IBU 91

Deep amber color, small white head. Madeira wine, barley in the nose. Medium-bodied. Some caramel, very harsh, aggressive hoppyness, some alcohol, short finish.

650ml bottle @ vPBF
Pours dark orange with a tiny head. Aroma of malts, hints of glue, fruity hops, hints of vanilla. Taste is sweet and sugary with notes of malts, harshly dry and bitter hops, hints of vanilla. Finish is harshly bitter with notes of malts and hints of vanilla. Thin bodied, but bitter. Decent, a bit unbalanced barley wine.

Hazy deep amber - brown beer. Light malt nose. Semi soft palate, a little dry. Malty bitter toffee, followed by pretty bitter hop. A little aniseed alcohol underneath. Subtle black fruits in the finish which is soft and warming and with a trace of bubblegum. A few too many rough edges for me.

Bottle @ Dan’s house. Hazy reddish orange appearance with a tan head. Touch toasty malty, somewhat citrusy, earthy, lightly floral hoppy aroma. Floral, herbal hoppy, citrusy, fairly rich toasty malty flavor. I’m a little disappointed.

2014-01-06, bottle from QFC - Seattle (Ballard), vintage 2011, 2 years old, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Cloudy amber color with small head. The aroma is a bit nutty, and there is some fudge. Full bodied, round, sweet without excess; the malt has a nutty accent; correct bitterness. A bit British, but also somehow shallow for a Barley Wine.
2011-07-08, bottle from Magnum Cigar, Phoenix; vintage 2008, 3 years old, 7-4-7-2-13=33
Beautiful red-amber color; medium sized creamy head. Mild aroma of caramel, nuts, light malt. The body is medium structured, less than expected for a Barley Wine; there is a strong nutty caramel flavor, not much malt, not much sweetness; strong bitterness, even a bit too much in the end.
Unbalanced and off target.

2007 Bottling sampled 11/30/08 Pours a clear dark amber color with a fluffy off white 2 finger head that displays some staying power. Smells of citrus hops, some pine and grapefruit. Sweet caramel malt and brown sugar hidden deep under the hops. Taste is a bit maltier than the nose would have you believe. I’m hit with the caramel before the hops come in with the grapefruit and the lingering hop bitterness. A bit of alcohol in the finish as well. Mouthfeel is prickly/creamy. Body in medium to thick. Carbonation is moderate. Decent Barley wine, but I’m afraid it would have been better fresher. The second bottle that I have will be put in the cellar for consumption in a year or two.

Bottle thanks to ygtbsm94: Poured an orange brown with white head. Aroma is alcohol and fermented fruit. Taste is very sour mixed with over powering alcohol.

22oz bomber. 09 Reserve, opened 12/10. Thick, murky red-brown with a beige head. Rich, ruggedly sweet malt aroma, some resinous hops as well. Hasn’t really aged that spectacularly, has just increased the pungent caramel toffee tones, and decreased the hop tones. A touch soapy, sort of middle of the road for a beer so big. Drinkable, very English feel to it. Doesn’t really stand up to most new-school examples.

22oz bottle (2010) from the state wine store Appearance: Poured into my Uinta BW glass. Clear amber/copper with a nice off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving some nice sticky lacing in the glass Aroma: Malty, earthy and oak Taste: Sweet malts, caramel, bitter and some hot alcohols I’m going to buy a few and cellar them to see what happens. Decent now, but it tastes ’raw’. Update: 8/17/19 Wow, it's been 9 years since I originally head this. I found 2 bottles in the back of the cellar. Wish I still had my Uinta glass to drink this from but it ended up in pieces at a tasting! No hard feelings though ;) This had held up good. Malty, earthy and pine resin. Hoppy and smooth. I like this.

2007 bottle thanks to Sean. Poured a hazy orange amber with a near white head at that dissipated quickly to the the edges. Aroma was full of malt with grain, bread, caramel and a slight toffee note coming through. The flavor was also full of malt with the notes listed above, especially with caramel and toffee giving the beer a sweet finish.
