Imperial Aquavit Porter

330mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out the Aquavit barrels upfront, along with dark fruits, some cocoa and a little toffee. Flavour is dominated by the Aquavit barrels upfront, followed by dark dried fruits, red vinous notes, toffee and bready notes. Really lovely use of the barrels. Complex, warming and well-integrated. Soft palate that brings out everything well together. Fantastic.

She’ll be livin’ high, we’ll be livin’ low. Either way I don’t think I know. You know there was a time I changed the oil on my car, a good ol’ boy’s Camaro, ’86 if you gotta ask, and hell it was fun watching that pitch black stuff pour into the pan. The enviro-weenies freaked out when I dumped it into the garbage, apparently you’re supposed to drive it back to Saudi Arabia so they can reuse it or somethin, but either way it made an impression on my idea of beer. Like, for example, there would be brewers out there aiming to imitate the viscosity of the dirty oil from an ’86 Camaro. But here it is, proof positive that such brewers exist. This is dark black an oily stuff, nothin wrong with that, but the head don’t stand up sadly and it should really, plenty of room for yeast in this concoction. Lots of soaked chocolate wood on this, sugar and syrup, sweetness, slight German cologne, not complex but rather appetizing and I can’t say I’m no expert with aqvavit but it ain’t on the nose. Eh. The flavour is a subdued muddle affair of chocolate malts and sweet barley with vague, vague indeed, hints of said aqvavit. Like half a shot in the bottle sorta reminiscence.Otherwise it’s just okay, good and drinkable, the alcohol warming but not cloying. This is smart and drinkable stuff but again seems to suffer from the aspect that it is not multidimensional which is often what a beer geek wants. Perhaps they are just brewing for the non beer geeks who like strong dark beers? Who am I to judge? It’s dayum good. And I gots to get me to Norway sometime to pay out the ass for soup and check up on some old ships that passed through the Arctic. Hey, fuck you - we all got our excuses for travel.

DØE. Black with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, coffee and wood. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. 190516

Pours black with a quickly fading head.Nose shows boozy schnapps or rice wine notes, soft roasted malt and little else.Flavours include roasted malt, more schnapps-like sweetness, booze, rice wine, soft spicy notes.

Ølfestival. Dark brown. Small off-white head. Aroma of licorice with caramel and toffee. Sweet malty and roasted flavour with licorice.

Draught, 11% at KØ16. Black colour. Almost no head. The flavour is roasted and mild for the ABV. Creamy with a weak liquorice. Gummy mouthfeel.

Powerful, balanced and tasty evening sipper.
Black color with a nice beige head. Mellow and fine intensity in the aroma. Full body and a soft carbonation. Creamy texture. Chocolate, toffee, bready and wood in the flavor. Well masked alcohol.
