Re-rating, 5/19/2010. 12 oz. bottle. I’m having another go at this because AB has repositioned the Michelob line (except for "Ultra") for the craft beer segment, with an all-grain bill and everything. The current label even mentions the hops used (Hallertau & Strissel Spalt). They even switch to a pry-off crown. Okay, so popping that cap brings out a familiar "beer" smell. But no skunk or sugary adjunct, and a bit of hop. Shows a nice golden color, close to a Pilsener, under a pillowy white head. Once in the glass, it does smell a little of fusel adjunct to me. Taste is a pretty nice version of an American lager. Easy drinking, slight hop bitterness. A bit of malt sticking the tongue. It does still have the macrobrew problem of being kind of gassy. But if I rate this against other pale lagers, I say it comes out pretty high. Everyone should give this another go.

Original rating: 9/10/07. 12 oz. bottle at picnic (no glass). Now marketed as "Michelob Lager." Simple light lager smell. Light color in brown bottle. Some crispness in taste. Noticeably dry with detectable hops. Still a typical macro lager, but without the corny adjuncts. Oh, and jbuzz: the slogan was "Tonight, let it be Löwenbrau."
