Dark in colour and silky smooth in texture, this famous northern drink offers a full and roasted flavour. With an unassuming low 3.2% ABV our dark Mild packs plenty of flavour thanks to the use of black and crystal malts with English cone hops, giving a good amount of bitterness alongside a drop of sweetness with caramel and slight coffee notes – it’s no wonder it was so popular with miners after a hard day’s graft.

Cask at the Old Monkey in Manchester. Rich caramel-flavored dark malt, with good hopping to go along. Still rather light at 3.2%, but good flavor. Slightly sweet with a very dry hop finish, more hops than I was led to expect for a mild. Nicely drinkable.

Cask gravity at Battersea BF 09. Black, very dark brown, lasting beige bubbly head. A proper dark mild from up north, so interested to have it. It’s really drinkable, a bit cola-ish. But decent acidity. Some roasted malt. I’ve ahd a lot worse beers today. Quite a decent interersting light in ABV dark mild, ok dark fruits.

Sampled cask conditioned at Ape & Apple, Manchester.
Dark mahogany appearance. Bready aroma. Roasty and surprisingly malty with a hint of coffee and some bitterness. Very well balanced.
