Originally brewed to celebrate Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009, Avery Brewing Company elected to give their beer Ale to the Chief a third term to commemorate the 2016 election. Rather than categorizing the beer as Imperial, Avery created a new beer style to honor our country’s democracy, calling the beer a Presidential Pale Ale. A brew worthy of the Oval Office!
”We the Brewers of Avery Brewing Company, in order to form a more perfect ale, require leadership that can liberate us from quagmires in foreign lands; embrace environmentally sound energy alternatives; continue healing our healthcare system; and unite the parties around this bipartisan brew. We hereby pledge to provide him or her with an ample amount of our Presidential Pale Ale whilst they achieve the aforementioned goals! Hail to the Chief!”
All-American pale ales are typically brewed with a bipartisan blend of malt and hops, both of which Avery increased before dry-hopping with a quintessential American hop, Cascade. Though this hop varietal hails from Washington the state, it was nominated to lead this beer due to its floral and citrusy persona. The malts share the power, with Caramel-120 malt adding contributing caramel flavor and color, Honey Malt for honey-like sweetness, and Dark Munich Malt bringing biscuity notes to the table.
This 8.1% alc/vol beer will be sworn into the Avery draft list on Monday, July 18, 2016.

Hazy amber, off-white head. Aroma of american hops, caramalts, flowers, ...: very well balanced with a nice complexity. Harshly bitter, heavily sweet flavour: nicely balanced with an ok complexity. Very nice.

Hoppy yet lovingly sweet, is a killer DIPA, or American Strong Ale, or whatever you want to call it. Pours beautifully, orange-gold and hazy, with a huge white cumulus head. Smells like an orange-glazed honeybun. Ooh boy, this is gonna be good. Buttery caramel mixes with honey on a biscuit, only to be swept up by a citric hop sting operation, one that cleans up your palate with SWATlike precision. Still, the hops justify their actions, keeping the malts from running roughshod like free-range chickens amidst a locust swarm. (1/21/09)

Sampled 10/29/2008 Pours a crystal clear deep golden amber with a bubbly white head that sticks around for a while. Aroma, well lets just say I smell the hops soon after I pop the cap off the bottle. Closer inspection reveals large hop aromas of pine and grapefruit. I know there’s some malt in there somewhere and if I squint I can maybe find a little caramel. Taste is hoppy, pine, resin and less citrus than the smell said there would be. I taste a little alcohol in the finish especially after it warms. Syrupy sticky mouthfeel, medium to thick body, crisp carbonation and mad lacing. Great little hop bomb here, a little more malt might be ok too.

Hazy amber beer, thick white head (short lived). Soft palate. Loads of hops. Piney grapefruit and orange marmalade and a hint og mint. Dry slightly spicy finish. Very nice hoppy beer with bitter hop finish. Almost briney.

22 ounce bottle. Pours very hazy orange-amber color with a thick 2 finger off white head with great retention and amazing lacing on the glass. Aromas of caramel, floral hops, and bread. Taste of orange, caramel, and floral hops. Starts out sweeter with a very nice bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body, nice balance. Awesome. Avery has not disappointed me yet so far.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty hoppy bitter aroma. Sweetish malty hoppy bitter grapefruit flavor. Has a sweetish malty hoppy finish with a bitter aftertaste.

This is an okay DIPA. It’s not my favorite DIPA, a bit bitter, a bit harsh, a bit metallic. The beer looks very nice, big orange-amber body with a an off-white head. The aroma is also nice. There’s some good citric hoppiness and a yeasty note. The flavor is hoppy, but there isn’t enough supporting malt. I dearly love Avery’s Maharaja, and this beer lacks the lush, rich depth of flavor that the great DIPAs possess. The feel is also a tad off. The alcohol comes through more than expected.
