Originally brewed to celebrate Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009, Avery Brewing Company elected to give their beer Ale to the Chief a third term to commemorate the 2016 election. Rather than categorizing the beer as Imperial, Avery created a new beer style to honor our country’s democracy, calling the beer a Presidential Pale Ale. A brew worthy of the Oval Office!
”We the Brewers of Avery Brewing Company, in order to form a more perfect ale, require leadership that can liberate us from quagmires in foreign lands; embrace environmentally sound energy alternatives; continue healing our healthcare system; and unite the parties around this bipartisan brew. We hereby pledge to provide him or her with an ample amount of our Presidential Pale Ale whilst they achieve the aforementioned goals! Hail to the Chief!”
All-American pale ales are typically brewed with a bipartisan blend of malt and hops, both of which Avery increased before dry-hopping with a quintessential American hop, Cascade. Though this hop varietal hails from Washington the state, it was nominated to lead this beer due to its floral and citrusy persona. The malts share the power, with Caramel-120 malt adding contributing caramel flavor and color, Honey Malt for honey-like sweetness, and Dark Munich Malt bringing biscuity notes to the table.
This 8.1% alc/vol beer will be sworn into the Avery draft list on Monday, July 18, 2016.

LCRBM 2009. Looks really good in the glass - brown with a creamy small head. Starts strong with notes of cinnamon and chocolate. Sweet and soft-spicy, christmas-like. Very well balanced finish, again with notes of cinnamon. Very good!

Small, off-white head over well-carbonated dark-orange beer. C-hops and cumin aroma, as well as dried gingerbread. Sweet, spicy with - again - cumin (I’ll start believing it’s added). Cookies, and sweetened, sugared grapefruit peel. Very well-bodied, slick, oily, alcoholburn. Nice, if more than a tad sweet-syrupy. Making it typically Avery.

22 oz bottle. Excellent paean to the all-American Pale Ale. Sierra Nevada would be proud--or jealous. Top of the line pale ale. Addendum: my enthusiasm for this beer went downhill as it warmed, and so did my rating. Still a great beer, however.

Bomber. Medium amber body. Large, off-white head mostly diminishing. The aroma is mostly hoppy with notes of grapefruit and apricot and modeately malty with notes of toasted grain. The flavor is lightly sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Alcohol jumps out in the finish. Medium to full body, smooth texture and lively carbonation. More a double IPA than an American Strong Ale because of the strong hop presence in both the aroma and flavor. And as a DIPA, it is farily one-dimensional, but solid nonetheless. Good balance between the malts and hops. Enjoyable.

Bottle pours a hazy orange with a very think dense off-white head. Rich sweet carmel and brown sugar malty aroma. Like a BW. Modest malt flavor profile, a bit sweet, but not very heavy. Moderate body, and carbonation. Slightly bitter on the tail end. Sweeter and heavier than a Pale, not so big and bitter as BW. Less bitter and hoppy than I expected of a American Strong. Interesting middle of the road characteristics, if not undecided.

Bottle 1pt. 6fl.oz.Clear medium amber orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, grapefruit, orange, pine. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20081122]

pours hazy orange, with off-white head. Aroma is yeasty with notes of grapefruit, suugary, caramel malts and hops. Taste has a decent thick mouthfeel, with light bitter hops. Yeasty, malty with good notes of caramel with some floral hops becoming present and warming alcohol.
