On tap at the Bow Bar winter beer festival. Appearance - opaque black with just a chink of red towards the bottom of the glass. Nose - bitter dark chocolate. Taste - liquorice and more dark chocolate. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - stunning porter.

Handpulled cask at NWAF 2013, half shared with Finn. Clear, jet black body. Naked at the top. Roasted dark malty nose. Well blended flavour of dark fruits and dark malts. Bitter liquorice to the finish. Pleasant (Manchester, 23.01.2013).

Cask at NWAF, 2011. Black pour, no head. Smoke, coffee, dark chocolate and burnt caramel aromas. Earthy, sour flavours with a hint of licorice. Earthy, bitter finish. More strange than complex.

(Gravicask at Old Fountain, Old Street, London, 25 Nov 2010) Black colour with brief, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of ashes, coffee and chocolate. Roasted, malty taste with chocolate, caramel, coffee and a generous cocoa bitterness. Rather light body, fairly dry. Excellent porter.

Gravity cask at the Old Fountain Beer Festival. Pours opaque brown with a bubbly, beige head. Lovely char, tobacco and cocoa nose. Lightly sweet flavor with tons of roasted malts, tobacco, slight minerality, very little bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Great finish, very roasty with light burned wood, mocha, coffee grounds, light dryness, and still very mild bitterness. Some hints of brown sugar, too. A wonderful British porter. I canโt see this being much better.

Cask at Marble Arch Inn, Manchester. A dark red-brown beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of malt - sweet as well as roasted, combined with notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt as well as light notes of chocolate and some odd note, leading to a dry and very roasted finish.

Thames Tipple Leg 8, Staines, Shepperton, Walton on Thames etc 29-11-09 Had this on the way home at the Royal Standard, Wooburn Common, Bucks Pours almost black in colour, flat in appearance and in truth lacking much sparkle in the mouth. I only had a small sample of this but too be honest whilst absolutely fine, by Pictish standards I found it a little lacking. There was coffee, thin chocolateyness and some maltiness both in the mouth and on the nose, but it came across as being a little thin and rather watery, uncomplicated others may describe this, I found it just a little boring. Cask (handpump) @ Marble Arch Inn, 73 Rochdale Rd, Manchester, Greater Manchester England M4 4HY.Clear dark dark red brown color with a average to large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, coffee, chocolate notes, moderate hoppy, grass. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090123]
