Bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours darkest brown with a sturdy dark tan head. The aroma is rich and smokey (but not as in your face as actual octomore whisky (, dark chocolate, rich gateaux, nutty, praline, cacao nibs, light umami, coffee, fruitiness, fruit cake, touch of toffee, whisky fudge, dull medicinal notes and peat fire. The taste is dry, rich roasted malt, charred, umami, bitter - sweet, deep dark smoke, prayed malt, medicinal vibes, charred oak, light ash, rich chocolate gateaux, praline, vanilla, jammy fruits, rocky road, jammy wagon wheel, tunnocks teacake, toothy, chewy, burnt toast, peat reek and some warming booze with a dry roasted finish. Fulsome body and fine, but lifting carbonation. I expected it to be almost more intense and peated, but it was more balanced. I actually drank this with a dram of octomore and as you might imagine the two went well. Struise doing what they are best at.

0.33 l bottle from 'Bierloods22', brewed in May 2020, bottled in July 2022. Pitch black with a thin, foamy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty, quite smoky-medicinal and a little fruity aroma of dark chocolate, licorice, peat, iodine, whisky, vanilla and some raisins. Rather sweet, malty, quite roasty, fairly smoky-medicinal and a little fruity taste of dark chocolate, hard roasted coffee, licorice, peat, iodine, whisky, oak and light raisins, followed by a long, fairly roasty-bitter, smoky-medicinal and earthy finish. Medium to full body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Heavy stuff, really intense, not overly harmonious but quite tasty nevertheless.

Bottle #1887. Very dark brown heading into black, some decent carbonation. Smell is peaty, whisky, lingering. A bit thin, but oily. Taste is heavy peaty, iodine, big coffee, with a nice bitterness. Some whisky. Post reveal: guessed right.

10 May 2020. Rest Tasting with Anke & Pieter. Thanks to my aunt & uncle for the birthday bottle! Vintage 2012. Bottle 94/2000. Bottled: 23/3/2017. Pours cloudy black with a lasting, thin, foamy, dark beige head. Intense aroma of candied date, prune, peated whisky, rum-soaked raisin, shoe polish, soy sauce, gravy, chocolate praliné, leather. Taste is full-on sweetness with candied date & prune, very rich chocolatey, dark fudge-like & nutty character with peat & smoke around the edges, umami soy & gravy underneath & a subtle interwoven bitterness (powder fondant, coffee). Malty, not too dry, yet earthy-peppery hoppy finish, more pronounced coffee & toast, lingering sweet chocolate, dried dark fruit & strong peated whisky alcohol in the throat. Full body, oily-sticky texture, soft carbonation. Very sweet Imperial Stout with the right amount of roasted bitterness; effective peated profile but could have had even more of that. Excellent, all things considered.
