This notoriously strong beer is a firm favourite in winter months, some call it liquid Christmas cake
Tasting note: This sweet malty winter ale has a port-like aroma with notes of citrus on the nose and dried fruit and cinnamon tastes create a warming effect on the tongue. Bitter sweet.

Cask at Sun, Stafford Pours a bright copper colour with a slight haze, and a tight cream head. A nice nutty aroma precedes a nice complex taste in the mouth. The initial impression is of the creaminess with cornflakes, toffee and sultanas coming through later. The underlying alcoholic strength makes its presence felt in due course. The finish is bitter and hoppy with hints of oranges. The alcohol lingers on the roof of the mouth ! I’ve found this beer to be a bit variable in the past, but this one was excellent.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Brownish-red in colour with a creamy head. Always with a strength, there’s some robust malts in its nose, with hints of fruit in its nose. It’s mildly tropical fruit is more evident in its taste.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is sweet malt and alcohol. The flavour is strong bitter with a rich sweet treacle toffee pudding, over ripe fruit, light spice, resin hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. The hoppy bitterness combined with the alcohol really doesn’t work for me. Not the best beer I’ve had from Titanic.

Cask at the Wellington; clear chestnut pour with a creamy magnolia head, dark fruit and acidic aroma, taste has light winter spices along with dark fruits, very mince pie, doesn’t work in a warm September.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 22 Nov 2013) Dark reddish amber colour with brief, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, orange peel and a touch of cinnamon. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, orange peel, citrus, hints of cinnamon and a sweet, vinous finish with a generous spicy bitterness. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Complex, tasty and quite strong, but still in excellent balance. Lovely beer!

Bottle shared at the Craft Beer Co. - Clerkenwell, London Holiday Tasting - thanks to me, lover of ESA. Pours clear copper with a tight, tan cream head. Dry brown bread nose, some toasted brown sugars, dried fruits. Medium sweet flavor with dry brown bread, bitter leaves, light cocoa, some dirt. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet finish, lightly sticky, some earthy and leafy bitterness, rich and well toasted whole grain bread. Not bad, actually.
