Fresh malty taste gives way to a long hoppy sensation and light fruity aftertaste.

Cask. Goldeny amber colour with a small white creamy head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is zest, some toffee, mild herbal and grassy notes. Flavour is quite similar, but has a nice sweetish malty edge to it and also a mild yeasty/spicy touch to it. Good thirst quencher, although a bit on the sweet side.

Highgates Christmas offering: hand pulled pint in my local Wetherspoons on 19th Dec 2011. Lovely amber body with a good firm creamy coloured crown of foam on top. The smells were of malty molasses and caramel sweets, a bit to sweet for my liking. The taste was also too sweet, even for me: the blend of ingrediants being bland, boring and uninspired. Far to soft and smooth for a UK bitter, wintery or not: a failure in my eyes.

[Cask at Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] Light amber-gold, small white head, slight fizz. Toffee with orangey hints and some spice at the back of the throat. Going in the right direction for Christmas, but needs to be darker, stronger, richer and with more - well, more everything really. In other words, itโs a bit bland.

Cask at the London & County (JDW), Eastbourne. Golden amber with a tight white head; orange aroma; fruity, orange flavour thatโs quite full on, then sweeter and lightly bitter with a touch of spice to finish. Quite appealing.
