29/7/2017. Cask at The Bricklayers, Colchester. Pours very dark brown with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, moderate roasting, light hop, dark fruit and a touch of citrus. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, very soft carbonation. Also 30/12/2025. Cask at The Cherry Tree, Woodbridge. Nice warming pint of old ale after a walk around Woodbridge in cold bright weather. Enjoyed both. See photo.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Brown malts upfront with notes of tobacco, dark breadcrust, caramel, and a hint of chocolate. Mild to medium bittersweet, a bit thin body. Nicely malty, not a beer to sip on but to drink agressively.

Bottle 50cl. @home poured into a pint glass. Opaque amberbrown colour, fair creamy tan head, half-way lasting, good lacing. Aroma toasted malt, caramel, candy sugar, dark fruits, sweet apples. Taste above medium sweet and slightly bitter, malty, light roast, caramel, candy sugar, light chocolate, very light apple, spicy notes. Light to medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation, sweet and a bit bitter aftertaste, well-balanced, slightly sugary, smooth, not thin, actually quite nice.

Bottle from the Adnams shop in Holt and at the perfect temperature after a busy day with a remarkable number of steps on the counter. Anyway, this is lovely. Rich malt, hops lurking nicely in the background and thirst quenching. Loads going on for a low abv. I always think so much about beer is the time and place you consume it. I've had a really good day and I was really up for a beer. Maybe I overscored, but I don't think so......

beautiful appearance of dark brown to mahogany colour and half inch of creamy beige-ish dark ecru head; aroma of dark berries, dried sour cherry, prune, raisins, some dark chocolate, some nutty and rye bready notes; taste has the same notes with some fruity-apple peel notes; I like it

Hints of coffee, dark chocolate and red fruit. Hoppy backbone, grassy with light hints of citrus. Spicy hints. Medium body, below average carbonation. Moderate to over moderate sweet, light bitterness. Long lasting finish. Typical British style traditional Old Ale. Ok.
