From tap at Borefts 2016. Aroma is chewy malts, marshmallows, vanilla cake, some fruity notes, chocolate. Flavour is medium sweet with some bitterness in the finish. Body is full. Rich and tasty, pleasantly surprised by the balanced use of marshmallows in this beer.

Super dark brown coloured body with a rather large, four centimetre tall light brown head that fades quite quickly and leaves a thin oily layer on top of the dak brown glow, about 90 per cent opaque. Aroma of roasted malt, mushrooms, earth, light canella and spices with some big vanilla and lactose notes here as well, but the rich, almost soy saucy and very umami notes come out and stay around for the entire scent. Medium to Full-bodied; Very rich pitted fruit, raisins, figs and caramelised sugar notes come out and stay large for the duration of this one, with some strong vanilla and earthiness here, but some coffee, bitter rustic qualities and some bourbon notes and strong alcohol hits towards the end and provides some variance. Aftertaste shows the rather pungent alcohol and bitter roasted malt notes, but some sugars help temper the relative astringency with some lactose, cream and vanilla notes up front and a good kick of grapes, raisins and figs at the very end with even a small note of cherry tartness on the finish. Overall, a deep and quite strong beer that shows decently well for the age, perhaps a bit strong still with some slightly astringent notes, but the body has seemingly thinned out a bit, so the age must have 'kept' here, but not done everything with this one. Good to sample, and I'm not sure how pungent this would have been 'fresh', but the age has helped this one, but not solved all the problems/astringency/pungency with this one, so if you still have one of these, I'd recommend keeping it for at least two more years (as long as the can doesn't have too much pressure - mine was fine and would have kept) to try to rid some of the astringency with this one. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Crystal City Wine Shop in Arlington, Virginia on 18-October-2019 for US$5,66, as Batch #1 with the tagline 'Spread Love' and sampled exactly three years after purchase at my house here in Washington, a few blocks away, on 18-October-2022.

Slick black. Bitter with anise, floral hops, chocolate cake, vanilla and booziness. Very long finish. Moderately full body. Alcohol overwhelms

Bottle from Gedeelde Vreugde. Cloudy black with a thin, beige head. Intense & enticing aroma of coffee roast, chicory, wet earth, chestnut, fig jam, toast, kahlua, marshmallow, milk chocolate, fondant, treacle, raw vanilla. Taste has very sweet candied fig, raisin, fudge & marshmallow but perfectly in balance, nuttiness leads the way into a bitter middle of coffee roast, toast, earth & dark chocolate, powdery effect with a vague edge of umami soy. Earthy hoppy finish, dry & powdery with lots of coffee roast & fondant, subtle vanilla hint along with the marshmallow but remaining restrained, if not a bit overpowered by heating kahlua-like alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Big & sweet Pastry Stout but complex & not renouncing the 'modern' hoppy standards. Ridiculously good, but in my memory the Pecan Mud Cake was even better.

Quarantine Beer #126 sampled at home on 05/10/2020. Brown-black pour with a medium tan head that recedes steadily to a dense film. Patchy lacing. Aroma of malt, marshmallow and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, sweet marshmallow and chocolate. The finish is roasty with a chocolate-covered marshmallow aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
