Historical beer, because brewed to a recipe dating from 1501, at least that is what Jopen claimed. Off-white, creamy head, colour of ’old gold’, clear. Malty aroma with grassy hops, white pepper, green apple, wheat and indiscernible spices. Dry taste, subdued fruitiness, light maltiness, some peppery hops in the finish. Not nearly as interesting as it sounded.

Hopfig herb sowie etwassäuerlich im Antrunk, im Mund stark schäumend. Kaum würzig, etwas bitter, der Mittelteil ist eine Verlängerung des Antrunks und kann nicht mit eigenen Aromen auftrumpfen. Simples Bier ohne Besonderheiten. 8/7/6/6/fl/7

Bottle from Bier Koning. Hazy gold beer, small white head. Light semi crisp palate. Smooth malt with a nicely integrated fruity streak consisting of apples, oranges and green melon. Drop of lemon as well. Finishes smooth. A bit different and very drinkable.

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of spices and malt. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of spices.

Bottle: Poured a yellow sediment filled jello with a white head. Spicy aroma. Taste is so horriable I damn near yacked in my mouth. I guess spice and infection don’t mix.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours an almost clear golden with a dense and lively off-white head. Dry, Brettish aroma. Medium body, dry and fruity with some yeast accents and an astringent Brett-like note. Very dry finish. 140509

Bottle, shared by Fonefan. It pours a hazy, yellow-golden body with a fingerthick off-white head. Slightly sourish nose, fruity and chalky, in a quite nice way. Fruity and chalky flavor with a herbal hoppyness. Medium to full body, a bit sourish. Some bitterness. Bitter finish. Wondering if this one was off, but it was still nice. Nothing more though.
