Ingredients: Dark roasted malt; hops; rice; maize; Asahi’s pure cultured yeast.
Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. Unlike other, more bitter dark beers and stouts, it’s brewed in a process called bottom fermentation, which gives it a subtle, sweet edge and smooth 5% abv.

334ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours dark red almost dark chocolate, with a lasting thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark malts, and a honey sweetness. Taste is dark lager, chocolate and maltiness. A satisfying dark lager.

Nose: I can barely bring myself to say it, but it smells of soy. Hack, but true. Taste is soy, slight toasted malt, a little fruit. The mouth feel is velvet. A passable beer, but note memorable.

Bottle from waitrose. Aroma is a slightly smoky, sweet liquorice and cola. Pour a clear cara red colour with a thin light tan head. Flavour is less pleasing. Biting carbonation chalk and roast. Palate is thin. Finish is medium duration dry acrid roast.

It was a thank you gift, it poured a dark reddish brown with a light tan head. The aroma is sweet syrupy chocolate. The taste matches, sweet syrupy light chocolate, highly carbonated & a dry finish with nuttiness in the aftertaste. It kind of reminds me of Kyoto Machiya’s dark beer. It is kind of meh, too sweet & cloying in the aftertaste I think. It is pretty sweet. Kind of cool it is brewed in Osaka, my can said it was "Munich type" not sure what they meant...

334ml bottle. Dark brown-black colour, foamy tan head and aroma of sweet roasted malt. The taste is coffee and malt, some initial sweetness, and a light nutty bitterness. Smooth mouth feel, light to medium body, soft carbonation. Quite OK.

Mild in character, black in appearance, it is a fairly smooth drink with some flavour but never a stated one, the nutty malt aroma is more dominant. Can feel dry in the palate.
