Bottle conditioned 500ml (best before Apr 2013)into a UK pint sleeve on a wet and miserable Friday afternoon (August Bank Holiday 2012): this is the first of a planned ’Random tasting session’ incorporating a variety of styles, flavours and countries beers. Only me here so far. Poured carefully so the sediment stayed in the bottle: good orangey, hazy body, loads of carbonisation bubbles rising to the full off-white foaming head. Fruity and yeasty nose, oranges and apples come to mind. The taste is fresh and tangy with a dry aftertaste: the flavours like the aroma are of summer fruits and yeastiness. Rye is used in the brew and it is a little ’grainy’ I suppose. The beer is pleasant without setting the world alight and I suspect the cask version is a lovely beer.

Cask at The Windham Arms, Sheringham, North Norfolk 14-06-09 Pours classic amber colour with a slim white head. Some light citrus fruits, a little dry at the end. This was a really easy drinking beer, really good fruitiness, excellent well kept session ale. A7 A5 F8 P4 Ov15 3.9

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet maty with notes fo caramel, hops, and grapefruit. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as lighter notes of dusty and grapefruity hops. An OK beer, but I’d like a bit more power. Thanks fonefan and Brugmansia for sharing.

[500ml bottle from The Little Beer Shop, Blofield, Norfolk] Greatest bottle label I’ve yet seen - a beautiful painting of a traditional Norfolk scene of a reedcutter strolling down a winding country lane with a scythe in one hand and a bottle in the other, heading towards a very traditional farm and windmill. In the background you can see a gorgeous sunrise over the sea. But wait - what’s this - the scene has been desecrated by a row of ugly modern wind turbines across the horizon. Some political message here, methinks! The beer itself pours orange-amber with a moderate lasting white head. Rather too bitter for my liking - the bitterness of burnt marmalade, A little earth and treacle, with a sticky mouthfeel. Not a great experience beerwise - I should have stuck to looking at the beautiful label!
