HISTORY
In 1998 Rogue Brewmaster John Maier created an Irish style lager that would float Guinness. It took four batches to get it just right. John used acidulated malts imported from Europe that resulted in a crisp, apple flavor profile. The bottle label displays a famous Irish Flutist.

Best place to get a lager rating - for free at the Whole Foods Market sample pours. Nice crisp barley. More than adequate for style but still not something next level. Pours blonde with OK head and lacing.

Draft. Yellow body, clear. Frothy white head, diminishing. Aroma of toasted grain and herbal hops. Note of pepper. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Light taste of grain, biscuit and herbal hops. Light bitterness lingers into the finish. Fairly clean and crisp. Inoffensive, but not much flavor.

Bomber bought at Super 1 in CDA, ID. Aroma is grainy, grassy, a bit skunky, creamed corn. Pours pale hazy gold with a medium white collapsing head; falls into a blanket of foam. Taste starts out lightly sweet and finishes bitter. The skunkiness comes through in the flavor, as well. The malt is a bit too pronounced as well, which makes me think this has been sitting on the shelf for too long. Carbonatoin is average, body is thin to medium. I’m sure this is pretty tasty fresh, but this isn’t fresh.

Enjoyed on draft at Subterranean in Chicago, IL while watching the band Ceremony. This stuff was just ok. Cloudy gold with rich white head, nose was mostly lager yeast and malt. I think they changed taps, because the first brew tasted better than the second. Decent malt/hop balance. It’s ok stuff, not memorable but decent.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 3/28/12

Aroma: The nose is fairly light, some pale malts, a little spice, and some light grass
Appearance: It pours a clear golden color with a thick foam of white head and lots of lace
Flavor: The taste is much like the nose, some pale malts and a grassy hops with a little spice
Palate: The body is light-medium, with a lively carbonation, oily texture, and a slightly unpleasant finish
Overall Impression: Overall, this isn't the most exciting offering. It isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. I certainly wouldn't rush out for this one again.

22oz bomber poured into a shaker. Pours a lightly cloudy gold with about a finger of white head and lots of black chunkies floating around. Expired much? Aroma of caramel with some citrus and floral hops. Taste is light bitter. Pine hops and caramel malt. Medium bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and an average length finish. Overall, it’s ok. Nothing special to see here folks. I’m just glad I got it on the $3 discount rack and didn’t have to pay full price.

Let’s not have any “Delusions of Grandeur” here, this is a lager. Hazy gold color in a lager glass. Nose is grassy malt. Taste is grassy, with some citrus hop in the finish. Cereal notes. Smooth and easy drinking. Much better than anything from B.M.C but not much depth, just a lager. However, it is very good for the style. If you like lagers, this IS quality.
